Anyone else have trouble with dumbell military when doing heavy weight getting them up. Anything over about 100 lb dumbells even with someone pushing up from the elbows and popping up with knees, still a struggle. Anybody have any inventive ways the go about getting them up. Just do barbell military press for heavier weight?

Ya, they get heavy... 100# is about where I top out at on a good day. Someone once told me though, if you can't get the first rep up w/o a bump that you shouldn't be using that much weight. I tend to agree with that to a point.

I do a clean and jerk to get them to my shoulders , then once the set is done I lower them as if I was coming out of the jerk position- watch your toes.

Brother I have been doing it for a while and without a spotter, kicking them up with your knees has been the best way for me.

If you need a spot ask someone. I am sure they will help you and if they won't their assholes anyway.

I agree with determined........You got to put them on the ends of your knees and kick them up to yourself. I use the 100 and that's how I do it and it seems to work pretty good. I'm not real big 5'9 195 and it is pretty effective for me.

Having someone hand them to you is the best way, but I don't work with a training partner, so I use the knees.

Are you asking about getting the first rep out or getting the DB's from your knees/sides/ to your shoulders to start the rep???

Getting them up to shoulders to start the rep. I always kick with my knees and have someone behind me grab my elbows and pull/push up. It is a PITA because they have to reach around to get my elbows and you can only come up one at a time. Last week, I was trying to get up 120s with person helping and it just wasn't happening. I will try having someone hand them to me from the front at shoulder level.

As for only using weight you can get up,I believe in training heavier each time even if you can only get 1-2 reps without help. This has been the most effective approach for me to gain strength and keep from getting stuck at weight. The weight feels lighter eventually.

ive seen hooks before that you actually hook onto the power rack and thenyou put the dumbells on them set at the hight for benching or military press ... i think they are called power hooks ...ive seen then on monstermuscle.com other places prob have them too...

I bounce em up with my knee's too, and yes once you go over 100#s it get's harder, but to me that makes it worth while I got 115#'s last week by myself no spot no help what so ever I only got 7rep's, but I was stoked. boncing them with my knee's seems to be the best method I found so far, and if I can't get them up to press them it wasn't ment to be that day. Damn now you guys got me all pumped to do shoulder's today, might have to try the 120's now haha

well you animal's, after my previous post I headed to the gym, motivated and ready, well my lifting partner didn't show but who give's a fuck I didnt need him, so I dive right into it, warm my shoulders up and claim my spot in front of the Dumbell rack, here's how it went down

12 x 80# warmup
10 x 95# getting the blood flowing
8 x 110# feeling pretty good now
6 x 120# personal best and I owe to you animal's for getting me pumped
8 x 100# just to make sure they we're toast

that was just the begining of the workout it got really intense after that but I wont bore you guys with. Thanks for the motivation brother's.

I had the same problem where sometimes i can do it and other times i cant. So i realized i was doing shoulders after chest. Do shoulders 48 hours after chest, then try it. Or you should lower the weight cause its too damn heavy.
