So I had a huge pump yesterday and was training chest so i decided to use the hammer stregth machine for another set of incline presses. Then there was this guy on there about 50 sitting down reading the dog darn paper. I asked him how many sets does he have and he said 2, me...said fine. Fuckin 5 minutes later he didnt do one set...im pacing back and forth not able to work my triceps cause theres hundreds of people around taking shit. Had a bad day because of the population. It took him 10 minutes to do 2 sets of incline. with only a 45 on each side. Warning. Please dont read papers in the gym..ANIMAL's dont.

I can't stand when people do shit like that. They can go home and read the paper to their god damned cats.

I refer to these people as 'speed bumps'. Always seems to be a few around, they aren't really doing anything, just in the way taking up space. And above all, slowing down the people who are there trying to get things done!

I love the guy that brings in his favorite muscle mag with him to get the latest workout from the pros. Of course, he dosen't have nearly the genetics of said pro, attempts to use the same weight but only busts out about 6 less than half reps. Tip of advise-if your arms don't bend past 90 degrees on a preacher curl, lighten the load.

Dont talk to me/get in my way/take up equipment by sitting on it/anything else that pisses me off. I just want to get my workout in and be done with it, not worry about being late for something because my workout took an extra 30 minutes because of dumb ass people.

Being in the way, whether its sitting around and talking on a cell phone, taking way to long of a break during sets, socializing or whatever it is, getting in the way is the one thing not to do in the gym.

I hear yah. At my old gym in Nova Scotia, there was one guy who would bring his briefcase set it on a bench, do crunches, read the paper, get a drink, do crunches, sketch notes for his thesis, maybe make a call, read the paper etc etc. It was discusting.

I remember one day I turned this sort of thing into a huge amount of momentum for myself. It was a leg day and I am doing lying leg curls. In the middle of my set I start hearing these two jack asses talk about how much they love bodybuilding. At first I am cool with this thinking there are a couple brothers in my gym. But as I finish my first set and start counting down to my next they just keep talking about how much they love it. They aren't lifting, they aren't compairing notes, just talking and taking up space on a bench other people need to use. I am halfway through my second set before one of them finally does a set of presses. Only thing is he talks the whole time and does these half ass little reps. Anyway, I finish the rest of my sets while they talk before the next guy takes his turn. For the rest of my workout I use these two pretenders to hammer out another rep, throw on another plate etc. So there is always a silver lining I suppose.

I know what you guys mean. It is my biggest pet peeve. The guys who sit around while asking ME what THEY should do. Get the hell outta the way thats what. Now-a-days i wear a hoodie almost everyday. I put my hood up and zone everything and everybody out. It keeps those dweebs from talking to me most of the time.

The news paper guys piss me off so bad. If it isn't bad enough them being in the way they have to leave their papers strung out all over the gym.

Yo Bro's.....I totally understand.
When I'm in the gym, I don't care if you sing, grunt, pass gas , or check out the babes...........just DON'T GET IN THE WAY OF MY WORKOUT!
Don't get me wrong...I'm cool to work in with ya, spot ya if ya need it, etc.
But don't talk trivia crap to me...and don't tie up MY weights.

When I see idiots doing this, I refer to them as the "children playing in MY playground"

Go home little boys......you are in my way!!!!

Can ya 'll relate?

mondays at my school are simply put--a bitch..everyone is training chest and there is no way youre getting a bench..so if i want to hit chest, i need to improvise..if someone just started on the cables, i say fuck it ill put together a ss of my own that will hurt twice as bad..the entire time im just focused on the lame ass idiots in the gym who arent getting anywhere and are just taking up space..these kids walk in still hungover from the weekend and think they are tough shit..some of them are big dudes, but these are the ones who juice, gain 20-30 pounds in a couple months and act like they run shit..sorry you dont get my vote..im training balls out natural..anyway i suggest switching up your routine every once in a while and always improvise cuz ull always need a backup plan..you dont have time to waste on other idiots in the gym..

I think we all have had these guys in the gym that piss us off. One guy at my gym walks in talking on his cell and walks out talking on his cell. The animal inside me wants to shove that cell phone up his ass. Hey don't get me wrong, I enjoy talking to my lady too but not at the gym. Its hard to ask someone if you can work in when they can't hear you with a phone in the ear.

You know...this happened to me numerous times and one day I thought I would take a different approach. I asked this guy, "Hey, how many sets you got left here?" He said..."oh, a few." I stood there and said, "well, mind if I work in with you?" He looked at me above his magazine, gave me a smirk and said, "I would rather wait and finish my sets."
Hmmmm, I stood there and thought ok...I will not get upset...I walked behind him, (he was sitting on the shoulder press machine), leaned on the machine, bent over toward him and said..."so, whatcha reading? Looks interesting..care if I join you, I love a good read you know."

He looked up, turned his head toward me...and I was right there in his face..I smiled really big and winked at him to go ahead, you know, don't mind me...he turned back around...got his shit, got up...turned and looked at me again..never smiling...just looked at me like I was some nut...and he went off in search of another spot to plant his ass on...luckily it wasn't anything I needed that day....I smiled big and went about my workout out.

Theres also always the guy/guys who simply pace back and forth in front of the mirror, constantly stopping to flex and see how good they look. The only problem is they arent ripped, they arent cut, and they have no idea what they are doing.

We have 2 of these guys at my gym and I have yet to actually see either of them perform a full workout in the 45mins-1hr Im there.

OK, usually I am in the gym at 3:30am but due to a late meeting the night before I overslept and had to get in there at 5pm the next day. After about 10 minutes I remembered why I switched to mornings.......the following were a few of my favorite characters in there that day: The guy that stands 1 foot in front of the dumbell rack to do his curls so that everyone has to wait till his set is done to replace or get the DB they need, The people who think that the area between the benches and the DB rack is the place to congregate and talk (1 guy and 3 girls for 20 mins without doing 1 set), gadgett guy on the bench with the Ipod AND his phone taking calls in between sets and talking loud enough that EVERYONE knew he was talking on the phone, and one of my favorites.....the guy that I have seen in there for the last year who keeps getting fatter and fatter but still wears the same spandex work out shorts and tank top. Damn I wish people would wake up.

I have this guy that frequents the same gym I'm at..in the middle of a set, his cell phone rings, he stops what he is doing and proceeds to set on the bench and talk for 15 minutes...this happens everytime he is there...why be there to talk on a phone?

01-22-07, 4:17 pm
People that take up a machine while talking on a cell phone and doing nothing..or worse: Using a machine and talking on it while doing so.
You CANNOT be exerting any effort if you can do that.
For wastes of space I sneak up behind them and drop an ass bomb. No shit.

Yeah I just can't believe some people, they thinks it's the damn library. I usually train at lunch to avoid that kinda shit. But at peak hours in the gym, ya got all kinda personalities in there that don't understand workout ethics in general. Just wasting space.

Don't doddle on the ONE bench I need, not doing any sets.

Don't try and socialize with me during a heavy press.

Please, M'am, dress appropriately and stop wearing a once piece spandex sports bra that shows your cottage cheese stomach.

WARNING: NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE PLEASE USE A FUCKING TOWEL IN THE LOCKER ROOM AND STOP PARADING YOUR BUSINESS IN MY FACE WHEN YOU SHAVE / BRUSH YOUR TEETH / BALANCE YOUR CHECKBOOK! Thank you.

My gym has some rules, but despite most gyms rules(no moaning no dropping etc) it's more ethics rules than anything.. no cell phones, whipe off your sweat off machines after you use it, do not stall machines/benches for more than 15 minutes, no tank top(avoids some flexing ego bitches..), unrack your fucking bars.. it's mostly respected..

but since it's a college gym, there's always little *****s trying to pose near the cardio place(90% chicks), wannabe beefcakes who wants to try your exercice while you're on your breaktime(1 set 4 reps then they want to go home) and morons who do 1 set of 50 reps on every single machine.. There was a couple of guys like that yesterday in the evening. No towel, tank top, trying to work biceps with 7.5lbs dbs. I just walked up to them to ask what they were training:"a bit of everything". I tried to teach them some basics, ethics and training methods.. they just walked away with that little "i dont give a fuck" face.

To come back to the main topic, disrespect and excessive attitude is probably the worse thing to do in a gym.

I lift in the weight room at school, its a class that i took... and i have it 2nd hour. Im in there with about 30 other people, and im the hardest working one in there... by far. We only have about 45 minutes to lift, so naturally.... i like to get things done.

The thing is though, most of the kids in my class are a bunch of lazy assed bastards that like to sit around and talk about how they got drunk over the weekend or some shit like that. What pisses me off though, is that everyone always is benching, which makes it almost impossible for me to get a good chest lift in for the day... and people are always sitting around on the machine that i need.

SO i just give them the look "hey... get your ass off, i need that machine". BUt all they do is just sit there and talk about sports statistics the whole damn time.

Pisses me off that people sit around on equipment and do nothing. It wastes my time, and they are always in the way.

I feel yah, many courses in highschool are the same way. Administration forces those types of kids to have a full course load, so they pick courses they can get by with slacking in. And in this particular case it is very distracting to anyone thats there for the right reasons.

don't get in my way when i'm lifting, don't even think about trying to educate me on lifting unless its obvious that ure animal or i ask you to, don't try to talk to me because the gym is not a f%@*in social scene, just shut up and lift

My gym is fancy, and i only go there because of the prime location. But most of the people there spend the majority of their time talking on their phones, or talking to their friends. THe women that go in there just to get guys to look at them make me mad too. Dont get me wrong I would pay attention to them outside of the gym, but having a girl doing sldl's for 20 mins, while im trying to focus is a little nerve racking. Also the old guys who walk around the locker room without a towel, i can understand going from the shower to the locker. But sometimes it seems like theyre just killing time, without a towel on their wrinkled self!

That happened to me before, and you got to just ask him nicely if you can work in with him. However that doesnt always work, so just stare at him with your eyes like your about to rip his head open and say "I insist on working in with you" lol.
