Well, thank god this was just a warm-up meet, for a couple of us anyway.
Bobby and I both screwed the pooch on this one.
We'll start with me. I dropped my opening squat to 925,smoked it no problem. jumped to 1005 which in the past had been my favorite opener, Big Mike Miller aka "RAGE" was to call my depth, the weight was light, as I said usually an opener, so I am listening to his call "back....back...back...back...UP!!!!" The weight came up so fast that the bar came off my shoulders at the top, got the rack call and stepped out knowing the lift was good, everyone thought it was good, except for the judges, red lighted me for DEPTH!!!! FUUUUUUCK! Coulda' killed Mike for that one but no big deal he turned in my next attempt at 1025, again easy weight. For some reason i was having trouble getting under the bar and getting my set up right which I am usually very good at, as soon as I un-racked the weight bar took a violent dip to the right , I re-racked it and passed on the lift . Something was not right. One of my training partners, a big SAMOAN fucker,Seko, took a huge jump to 1100 (the guy is 48 years old) and had the same problem. He did manage his 925 on a second attempt for a Masters National record.
We found out at the end of the meet that by the time our heavy lifts came around that the brand new squat rack had a faulty bolt that bent and had the bar setting about a 1/2 inch lower on the right which is why we both pitched to the right and cost both of us a lift.
Bombshell posted an amazing 455 squat, being her first full meet that lift earned her a Amateur National record in her weight class.
Michelle Borzok hit an equally amazing 450.
Kathy Fields was lifting raw and unfortunately I missed her attempts, hopefully she will read this and post her lifts, she is always strong as hell.and a huge asset to the team. I feel horrible that I can't remember her lifts.
On to the bench, with trying to pay attention to the girls since they were doing they're first full meet and doing so well i cut my warm-ups very short but thought I would be fine just the same.
I opened with my planned 550, i got the hand off and the weight felt light, all the way down touched, got the press call and the weight flew back up, just about an inch before lock out I felt my right pec tear and the bar stopped moving on that side, the left side locked but the right just would not go without that pec working....no lift. With the pain starting to set in there was just no way I could keep going with that weight so that was the end of my day.
Bobby was having shirt issues all day and just couldn't get his 800 to go, we just have to tweak his training a little and he will smoke it by the next meet.
Bombshell was also having some shirt issues an only managed her 275 opener that she made look like 135.
Michelle hit a huge 365 and took 400 on a 4th but just couldn't make it go. The girl is an amazing bencher and will get that 400 soon.
Both of the girls pulled 315 at the end of the day, Bombshell actually took 385 for a ride but it was too big of a jump and she just could not lock it out.
We all had a good time, figured out some gear issues and got to see some friends that we don't see as often as we would like. Now it's back to the gym to get ready for Worlds.
WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT
During the meet someone came up to me and said he had friend from Bulgaria that wanted to meet me and was a HUGE ANIMAL fan, I talked to him for a bit, and then realized that I left my extra Animal gear at home along with my fucking camera, so, I gave him the sweaty chalk covered shirt off my back, and suggested that he wash it first, His reply "HELL NO!!! I'm puttin' it on now" and so he did, and had it on the rest of the day
