Will be posting every couple days or a week at a time. If I have more time, I will will do more.
All the pm's I get WILL BE ANSWERED, might be a bit of the delay, BUT I WILL ANSWER ALL OF THEM!!!
No carb cycling for me...My daily diet as of now looks like
(I make changes every 4 weeks)
Protein at 450 grams
Carbs at 200 grams
Fats just in my protein no added sources
4 food meals, 3 shakes daily
Carbs-- rice-potatos-oats-string beans, dark lettuce
Protein--egg whites, Ultra Iso-Whey protein (fruit punch), chicken, tuna, flank steak or top round.
Water intake is close to if not a tad more that 2 gallons a day.
Cardio 20 minutes 6x a week
Training- still TRYING to go heavy, intense, a couple of drop sets, not much super setting, just good old "balls to the wall East Coast lifting"
Still gotta train smart!
Supplements (you got enough room)
Uni-liver tabs 50 a day divied into 7 meals
23 Amino's 6 with each meal (42 daily)
BigAnt drink (NO GATORADE) during workout (just BCAA stack, glutamine and Storm)
Creatine-glutamine 3 x a day
Animal Pak and Animal Flex 3x a day
Torrent post workout
BCAA capsules post work out
Ultra Iso Whey protein 3 x a day mixed with ice water
Shock Therapy 1 serving pre work out (2 servings on back-leg day)
Animal pump (while driving to the gym or waking down to my basement)
Animal Cuts 1 pak mid workout & 1 pak pre cardio
Will go to train chest/abs/calves in an hour...
Thanks for all of the kind words!

And what are you doing for cardio...just wondering???
And what are you doing for cardio...just wondering???
I do my cardio at home, in my master bedroom, I have a treadmill, EXF along with a stationary bike. I use the EFX and treadmill for my pre-contest cardio..alternating both each day...I put on a bodybuilding dvd and go!
I do it soon as I awake with my Animal cuts in me with some diet ice-tea...

Serious, just try a couple at a time, and add to your stacks slowly..
Remember no pill or mix will replace hard work and desire!
Hey man, excited to learn from your journey. That is a massive supplement list! Best of luck to you in your upcoming competition bro.

I saw that you are taking 23 aminos a day. Why exactly 23 is it because thats what the instructions say or from experience. What will that do for you exactly?

Universal Nutrition's 23 Aminos capsules------- contains 23 pharmaceutical-grade free form amino acids, including the key aminos, L-ornithine and L-arginine a key for growth hormone increase.
Amino acids ARE THE building blocks of protein! Humans can produce 10 of the amino acids. The others must be supplied in the food or Supplement Form!
I am an old-school guy, been taking this product forever!

Didn't see this in there but............
where's dat dere swiss ball? :D
Yeah--contest prep-in 4 days now...talked to Punisher the other day, told him I want Oatmeal raisin cookies, we both laughed...
You know...when anybody starts to diet for a show...the first four-five weeks, you feel and THINK you look like shit, let me explain..I call it "transition phase"
You are not big-bulky-water logged any more, nor are you diced, shredded and ripped to the bone...
So most people feel small and fat!
PEOPLE---THIS IS NORMAL !!!
This is when you gotta get that "animal" inside of you and push through it, stop watching the scale, looking in the mirror, worrying about your bicep size...just suck it up and stay on plan!
Me---yeah I feel like this sometimes, we all do...Big Al at 5'7 and 295 pounds of massive and rock hard muscle tells me he feels small...I was like--what dope are you smoking?
You see, it happens to all of us!
I wear long sleeves and sweat pants, stay covered up until like 8 weeks out...it is better for my mind...
Moral...
Your goals will be reached and exceeded--If you stay on course, avoid distractions, have a positive and honest team backing you and most important..believe in yourself!
And the cookies....shit, that is for people who want 2nd place!
Have a great night and a better day tomorrow...off to bed!
BigAnt, love your attitude Big Man, keep ur head up and I wish you the best. That's right cookies are for the guys who don't want 1st! will be checkin in. Peace.
One week down, 15 to go!
The most important thing in pre-contest prep is...NOT TO GET INJURED!
Sure, you still got to train hard, but in 16 weeks, some people do 12 weeks...you are not really going to put on A LOT MORE MUSCLE...SOME MUSCLE, BUT IT WILL BE ABOUT RETAINING IT! You (hopefuly) built some nice hard-earned muscle in your off-season. Now we just go to "hold" on to the muscle and get it all ripped up!
Was very happy today, found Top Round on sale for $1.49 a pound. I bought a freezer full!
I even called up The Punisher and told him about it. Unfortunately, there is not a Supermarket (Superfresh) by his house...don't worry Bro...got a pack in my freezer for you...But, you gotta come down on Sunday, 5/20/07. Big Al is driving up and we are going to train legs!
Shit, I really need to be on my A Game...
Might be a double-dose-day of Shock Therapy and will have to pack two bottles of the BigAnt drink!
Will post the leg workout tomorrow!
Everybody have a great Satuday night, going to run errands, and get my grill on (cook my food)
A double serving of Shock Therapy? damn! let me know how that feels.
Big Ant just a quick Q: I am following your no longer "secret" drink, but take pump pre-workout, is it still okay to add storm in the mid/wo drink? I still have some left over you see.
Good luck with contest prep!

I take Pump, on my way to the gym, or as I warm up in my basement....helps me mentally to "prepare"
Yeah, "my" drink is Storm (2 servings) glutamine, and BCAA stack, mixed with ice water in a 64oz. plastic bottle...Off-season (I am dieting now for a bodybuilding contest) I also add Gatorade.
Okay?
Hit me up if I can help you with anything else!
Train hard-smart!

Shit, that's a fucking relief. I thought I was just insane.
Thanks for the heads up, BigAnt. The first few weeks can be awful. No energy, no definition....messes with your head.
good luck to you! dont worry everyone is there own worst critic you might think you look like shit when you dont! train hard big ant! we all have you back!
Yeah 2 weeks down dropped some weight, only 4-5 pounds, but I do look harder, it was most likely water....from stopping my cheat meals....
Cardio 20 minutes 6x a week...treadmill
Training, still going heavy, if the body allows for it...gotta train smart..
On the 4th week into my diet, I will drop calories from carbs...

Big Ant.
The diet looks great man.
I have a question though. I read that your doing 20 min. of cardio 6x per week on the tredmill. I have always wondered is that 20 minutes of a run? an incline walk? I know the key is to get your heart rate up, but i was curious as to what you do.
keep hittin it hard.

I will forsure be following your threads as you prepare for competition. best of luck to you and keep hitting it hard and safe.

Dieting is key with cardio to get lean and shredded.
You still have to train hard and heavy (if not injuried) to retain that
size-mass you worked hard for in the off season....
I will make some minor changes in my diet next week, probably drop some calories from carbs. and most likely add a little bit of extra time to my 6 days a week 20 minute cardio sessions.
Still pushing 2 gallons of water a day (mixed with some Crystal light) And I allow myself one diet soda a day with my lunch (12:30 meal)
Diet Coke with Lime...

Looks good bro, Good luck in your competition. I start dieting in decmber for a competition im doing in April.
Ever see the movie with Bill Murry "Groundhog's Day" the sceen where it goes over and over and over the same thing...that is my life when I prepare for a show. Punisher asked "what are you eating today for lunch" I sad "same old chicken/string beans/rice with a diet soda"...SAME THING SAME TIME -- SAME EVERYTHING.
I like a tight schedule, keeps me "on" my game!

I always have been drinking close to 2 gallons of water a day for over a long time...your body does adjust!
After my chest worout on Tuesday, I woke up with sreaming pain in my shoulder, just when it was on the heal...Again, in this sport, injuries are part of the game, I - YOU have to push yourself through them, take rest when needed, go lighter, train smarter, but, when feeling good you gotta
train balls-to-the-wall...if not, your competitors are.
I rested 3 days, saw my Dr. for a shot of cort. and will go back to lighter weights-machines-cables for 2-3 workouts. Than, test myself with the good old standards bench-inclines-dips-flies...
You have to have passion, passion for this, and everything else will eventually fall into it's place!

Good solid advice for anyone questioning whether they should and how they should work through an injury. Hope your shoulder holds up BigAnt and wishing you the best at your upcoming comp.
A little over 12 weeks, before you know it, I will be back stage pumping up, ready to go to battle, sometimes you have to fight 2 battles to win!
I am going to re-evalute my diet this week, most likely add another 10 minutes to my cardio. It will be now 30 minutes once a day for 6 days. Every day except leg day!
Also will pull some calories from carbs, probably drop my carbs down 30-40 grams. Which is justing eliminating one of my smaller oats-rice meals in the later evening.
Still gotta push myself with intense PAIN FREE movements. Will have to train heavy enough to hold - build muscle and not injure my shoulder even more...gotta get creative with my worouts...rest-pause, 30 seconds up-down, pre-exhaust, giant sets, 100 rep sets...anything that will shock my body into growth and still keep me pain free.
Ant.

Ant,
true inspiration you are to not only this sport but life in general. the ability to overcome obstacles that appear out of the blue mental and physical takes heart. that stage won't be big enough to hold you come show time
Only the strong survive...my mind is my strongest muscle...if you think negative thoughts, you will get negative reactions...Sure; we all have
highs-lows, just have more high times and stay positive..everything happens for a reason...and I always see the protein shaker half full!
Injuries happen, so does stress, family obligations, working late and other obstacles that MAY get in your way...It is cool to sometime "just roll with it" but by all means this is not an excuse to get lazy!
I always say...it is "How bad do you want it"
When you can HONESTLY answer this---trust me...all the pieces will fall into place---where they belong!
Ant.
Sometimes giving all you got is not enough...but it shows determination-drive and discipline...and those three D-letter words, when combined is ----
ALWAYS ENOUGH!
[]
"Ruthlessly Compete With Your Own Best Self"
Again, I feel as if I cannot compete at 100% I will not compete! Injuries do happen, tend to slow the progress down, but it doesn't STOP PROGESS!
Will go back to an "off-season mode" diet for several weeks, rehab my shoulder during this time, and hopefully when I start to diet on 7/30/07...It will be healed....I will have 15 weeks until the NPC East Coast and 17 weeks until NPC Nationals!
If you can't give it your all, you wil never know how much to give, and more importantly you won't know what will be gained, or better yet..WHAT WILL BE EARNED!
Ant.

Work is work, but I met with a buddy who competes in Masters comps, he helped me with some goal setting, nutrition and training advice. Took measurements and bodyfat and recommended a fat loss routine, said that the muscle is there, just hidden by fat. Gonna give it a go, I will keep you updated.

Shock Therapy 1 serving pre work out (2 servings on back-leg day)
Animal pump (while driving to the gym or waking down to my basement)
Thanks for all of the kind words!
Whats up Big Ant,,,I'm new to the Animal world, been taking products since May 4 07. I've made the change and know these products are for real...and also this site is the for real too.
My question is you mix pump and shock together...is that good to go or you just do that for pre-show?

I like to take the pump a little before the Shock, Shock - mixing with water, I feel it gets in your system faster...
thanks for the tip Big Ant...been doing this now for 3 workouts...thought it was overkill at first, but the intensity w/ the two combined is insane.

Whats up Big Ant,,,I'm new to the Animal world, been taking products since May 4 07. I've made the change and know these products are for real...and also this site is the for real too.
My question is you mix pump and shock together...is that good to go or you just do that for pre-show?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome!
Yeah, no buill shit! I use the pump first than about 15-20 minutes later Shock...read this...
What works best for me is to throw down the Shock with 7oz. of ice water soon as I walk into the gym or when my feet hit my first step in my home-basement-gym...than warm up, make your BigAnt drink...and This is when you will feel the Shock starting to work...
Beta-Alanine…this is an amino acid produced naturally in the body and found in foods such as chicken and fish. Beta-Alanine once it enters into the metabolic pathway in your body it produces another biochemical called Carnosine.
Carnosine is a powerful buffering agent. It has the ability to neutralize lactic acid build-up in your muscles. The build-up of lactic acid in muscles is one of the main limiting factors in muscular performance.
AND GUESS WHAT HAS Beta Alanine in it....SHOCK THERAPY
---TAKE PRE-WORKOUT---
COOL?
Things are great! Family is awesome, thank you for asking.

Much easier to track your goals!

Do you ever lose the feel, due to getting a tolerance?

----It's the pain in your muscles, and the aching....and the drive to go on and on and on---GO ON. The last two-three reps. that's what makes muscles grow-respond. It separates - divides one from being a Champion and from not being a Champion...if you can go through this pain barrier you can make it to be a Champion...if you can't, forget about it!
That's what most people lack...having the guts...the guts to go in and just say "I GO THROUGH WITH IT, I DON'T CARE WHAT HAPPENS" You know?
It aches, and if I fall down...I spring back up. I have no fear of loosing my food-fainting in the gym---because it can AND WILL HAPPEN...But it doesn't matter--to me...IT IS ALL WORTH IT!

Been dieting for 11 days now, have 13 weeks until the NPC East Coast and 15 weeks until NPC Nationals. Working again with Big Al with my contest prep. He is making a come back after several years of from competing, he will also do the same shows as me this year!
So far so good, dieting is going well, remember it is only 11 days---but my metabolism is starting to crank, like the feeling of feeling hungry after I finish a meal! My diet will change in a drop of calories from carbs in 2 more weeks and also might bump up cardio than, will re-evaluate myself with Al.
No more cheat meals, if it is not egg whites, oats, rice, potatoes, Iso Whey protein, top round, rice, string beans, tuna and once in a while grilled salmon, I ain't eating it. I do allow myself one diet soda a day with my #3 meal at 12:30 (right about now)
Joint pain has been terrible this year, why, don't know>? Had a touch of it last year, but not as bad...just have to suck it up and push forward!!!
Abs are in and have very good muscle separation, Al thinks I got a magic mirror in my basement, I am hard at home, when I see him in DE, I fade WTF? hahahahahahaha
It's all good, sometimes I need a good kick in the a$$ to keep me grounded!
Clippered the hair off my body last night (Lowdown) it was not fun LOL
BUT YOU GOTTA DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO! Will use clippers to about 3 weeks out, than a disposable razor in a warm shower will take over!
I gotta keep my mind active, last year I wore a Nike visor to all of my shows, the year before was a Nike bandanna...this year---will have to think about it-little things like this, believe it or not keep my from squirming the day of the show, just me-?!

How is it going, how is your training?
For me, I only change my workouts the last week from the show, sure energy levels are lower because of lower carbs, but I still TRY to incorporate heavy training, helps hold size when dieting...
The last week I do what I call a "glycogen depeltion" workout, just full body workouts Sun-Wed before a Sat show, stopped training legs 4 days out....
Train with much quicker rest times and do 20-25 reps, just to "pull" the glycogen out, to get a better "carb load"
Do you have a conest in mind?

orange roughy is good, but can only find it frozen, i wonder what it would taste like fresh.....to me it is similar to filet of sole or flounder but it most closely resembles the butteriness of Chilean seabass, i guess this is due to the high fat content which is not a bad thing for fish

I was reading that fish-oil when taken in big doses, such as 10 to even 30 g, or caps a day, can dramatically increase results of fat loss and mass gain. It was on t-nation somewhere. I went from taking 4 caps a day to 12 caps a day and I noticed a huge difference last time I was cutting a little bit. I think when I do my first contest prep I'll hit 25 a day, just expensive.

Thats what I'm talking about BigAnt. Some people don't keep their nutrition in check early enough and rush at the end and wreck the whole thing. If you're hams are popping at 10 weeks out, you're doing it right. Not that I would suspect anything less...
Yeah checked in with Big Al again, still on schedule, had sushi! YEAH!
Saturday night, cooking all my food, phone rings at 1:30am, Punisher calls, tells me House is a Pro!
I grill all my food (steak-chicken-veggies) for the week...I freeze half of it (cooked) defrost it on Tuesday night for Wednesday...last all week that way...I also broil potatos (like french fries-steak fries) in the oven 2 big-ass containers worth - freeze one!
I use frozen string beans and my breakfast is made the nigth before...liquid egg whites, cook them in the microwave---FOUND ANOTHER SECRET!
DON'T LAUGGH!
Bed Bath & Beyond has microwaveable omlette makes, pour in the egg whites, close it, microwave for 4 minutes...done deal NO MESS-NO CLEAN UP!
I mix them in with my oats and salsa, sounds gross, but for me, it goes down NICE!
Right knee is kinda sore, comes and goes, same wth elbows and shoulders, just have to think and stay positive!

Thought I was the only one who mixed eggs, oats and salsa. Guess great minds think alike.
Ice that knee Ant, need to take care of it.

What does your diet look like in the final days? In the final phase before competition, the torture days...

It is only torture if you THINK it is...I call it "SHOW ME" TIME...Ant, show me how much you want this, how bad, how much dedication you got!
I do a mild carb deplete (for a Saturday show) from Sunday to Wednesday...as I begin to bring in the carbs I use potatos-yams, I gradually drop my water...Friday, basically my food is like eating dust!
But, to be honest, I don't mind it, I keep focusing on the BIG PICTURE!

7...8 AND 10 WEEKS UNTIL MY SHOWS THIS YEAR...
THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!
HOW ARE YOUR WORKOUTS?
With just 7 weeks until the Gold's and 8 weeks until the East Coast, & Nationals 10 weeks away...gotta keep it turned up!
Going to see Big Al today, checking out each other's progress, no sushi tonight, just pose and review diet-cardio info...meals will be with me in my cooler, so will a gallon of ice water, will treat myself to a D&D ice cofee--black with 2 equal...for the drive down!
People don't understand, that when you are this close to a show the 7-10 week mark, it is still a long time....time for changes, but time zooms by! My body is starting to change, see changes in the mirror and how my clothes fit me...every 3-4 days!

Sorry.
Went to see Big Al on Saturday 9/8/07...checked me out, said everythign is good, "you are tight"...so no changes...I am still doing cardio 6x a week, first thing on an empty stomach, treadmill for 20 minutes, fast walk on an incline.
Diet is still the same, carbohydrates are at 190 grams, constisting of oats/rice/potatos. Protein is still at 475 grams , consisting of egg whites/chicken/Ultra Iso Whey/top round/tilapia. Fat what ever is in my foods and two tsp. of flax oil.
Drinking the BigAnt drink with water druing the workouts and also drinking 2 gallons of water a day, allowing myself one diet coke with my number three meal!
Big Al is freaky! Cut and veiny, x-striations on shoulders-legs, abs are full in effect, close to the 265-270lb. mark...He is dialing in great! He trains with
the highest intensity I have ever witnessed...and is ALWAYS strict on his diet!
Hopefully we will post pictures next week when we meet again!
Sorry.

Im sure you recognize your own quote. Its from your "Hungry" article over on the Animal site. Theres alot of good stuff in there. I think sometimes the forum members dont take advantage of those articles. Youve got some good ones. Keep on working hard BigAnt. I know your only concerned with beating your previous condition at your last shows, but if you can do that, theres no way you cant win. The weeks are going fast.
Keep it up.

School is going well.
I have enough breaks in between classes to get my meals in and then train. Id say the biggest thing with balance is having your priorities. I am in no way perfect and struggle sometimes. You gotta be proactive though. I made sure i met with the manager of the dining halls here to talk about food quantities and getting food in bulk and to not be pissed when i come in and get a dozen hard boiled eggs or 6 chicken breasts. Gotta stock up.
An older dining hall woman employee made the comment the other day after i asked for 6 chicken breasts. "You must be bodybuilding."
Back to balancing though, once you have your meals set its alot easier. Get the staples like eggs, and chicken from the dining halls. Have other staples in your room: Oats, Natural PB, Brown Rice, Yams, Olive Oil, Mrs. Dash, Frozen Broccolli, Almonds, and then the supps, some Real Gains, Whey, The Pak, and whatever else is in your stack. Sure my room looks like aisle X of your local heath store, but you bet your ass im getting big on campus.
When its time to go out, dont let others make decisions for you. I have no problem with being that guy at a party with a shaker bottle. If you and your frat buddies got a problem with it, i have no problem standing up for what I believe in. Just have priorities. As long as i get my work done whether lifting/meals/school, and get a solid 7-9 hours of sleep, im all over it.
Sorry for highjacking your thread BigAnt. You asked, and thats my opinion.

Still getting harder and tighter...did not drop carbs or add cardio as of yet!
Will go down and see Big Al again this Saturday...
Met with Big Al again today..Damn he is jacked, waist is smaller, abs are sharp, and he is big-thick and hard...A FREAK!
9 WEEKS BIG BOY...SHOW THEM HOW IT'S DONE--OLD SCHOOL!
We are keeping my diet-cardio the same--Al's words
"IF IT AIN'T BROKEN...DON'T CHANGE IT"
Again, my daily carb. grams are at 190 grams...from white rice, oats and potatos. Protein is the same, and cardio is still at 20 minutes, fast walk on the treadmill on an incline, first thing in the morning...
Just booked the hotel room for NPC Nationals in Dallas, TX, AL and I are staying in the same hotel, a room with a kitchen-stove-microwave and
