Just a quick story a few of you can relate to......
A few months ago, I finally reached the point where my XL work shirts were just way too small. I found a few XXL items on the clearance racks and took advantage of it.
I just went shopping a couple days ago (need more shirts for work) and noticed the XXL is anywhere from $2-5 more than the 'normal' sizes. What the fuck?!?! Are we supposed to conform to society's size standards or what?
Also, are there any brand names you guys can suggest that cater to the athletic individual (broader shoulders, more-than-just-sticks for arms, etc)?

Know how ya feel, If you have a Kohls store near you go there. Tons of clearence, always cheap, and good brands. Check it out. My mom works there so she grabs stuff for me and my dad all the time.

Manufacturers produce their shirts to make money, if you go from an XL to an XXL more material is needed, which means more costs for the manufacturers (which means a higher price tag on the item). "What the fuck?!?! Are we supposed to conform to society's size standards" the answer is no, but you should engage in some logical thinking before you post these kinds of questions.

Engaging in logical thinking is a wonderful idea, showtime. Then you would think about how much extra material goes into an XXL vs. an XL and the overall cost of manufacturing it. The information you derive from your common sense (i.e logic) would tell you that the companies are simply taking advantage of the bigger folks. It has very little to do with material.

try having to wear the US Army's new ACU's, the shoulders hems dig into you, I got permanent marks-seems like, my chest pushes the top out in front so I look fat, and the pants- I have to bunch up the waist and pull it over the belt so my legs fit.And why is there pockets on the upper sleeves? to pull up the zipper to where it is supposed to be I pinch my neck.
Check out Marhsalls or TJ Max. Great prices on name brands and have up to four X's in some shirts.
I stick to Xl, the torso area is always loose anough but my arms fill up the sleeves enough to get looked at, lol...

Good reply Hercules... I actually looked at some of your other posts and realized you are a knowledgeable individual in fields of biology/anatomy/bodybuilding.... looking at the initial post I saw from you I didn’t think that to be accurate (bc your "hidden" sarcasm is not sensed through text.)
I still stand by my response that bigger sizes = more material = more costs = higher price tag. Its business and should be understood.... a great excuse for producers to mark up their items (when really it only costs them nickels and dimes to produce it).....
An educated person like you should be able to hold a position that makes enough money so you are not worried about a few extra dollars ;)
I dont know if any one else has this problem, but personally I have a hard time finding clothes that fit me the right way. If I buy an XL the body of the shirt doesnt fit, but the sleves are alright a bit tight, but allright. I normally buy a XXL in dress shirts and what not because the body fits me good, but the sleeves are too long, everytime i buy shirts I get pissed lol
I dont quite understand the jump in price from XL to XXL personally. I understand that it takes more material but the difference between an S and an XL is a big one, yet there is no price difference there. Im with Hercules on this one, i dont think there should be a price difference.
I have a hard time fiding a good fitting pair of jeans. I have a big ass I guess due to squatts and all and the thicker thighs dont help. They just feel wierd. I do find some here and there and usually buy 3 of the same kind of jeans since I might not find anothe pair that fits as well.

Depending on the area you live in (Im in south FL) we have stores called casual male XL (used to be called "big and tall", but I guess fat people got pissed, so the fancied up the name), they go up to 8xl or maybe even 10xl... im sure nobody on this site is bigger than that. If you don't have a store near you, try looking it up online, I know you can buy shit there. I've grown out of 2xl and now im at 3xl and they have a shit load of stuff, and even dress shirts and pants. Can't go to church in gym shorts, and a tank, ya know?

I used to have the same problem with jeans, I found american eagle brand loose fit are usually the best fit and they come in all sizes.
Finding clothes to wear is fuckin' hard. Im not the type of guy that wears some pretty boy abercrombie shit, i wear shirts that are usualy XL or 2XL and pants that are way too big on the waist but fit my legs..lol...(i hope yall understand what im saying), but finding regular t-shirts that just hang off of me are a problem. Yall got any advice on where to buy shit from?
My tailor loves me. (or my money) I wear suits often and the waist of the jacket has to be taken in and the back needs to be widened. The arms normally have to be widened as well.

Ya everyone faces this. Everyone has clothes in the beginning that fits them, but once you start packing on some weight everything begins to not fit. I just have a bunch of shirts that are L and XL thats good enough for me. Most of the pants I wear are sporty...jeans just dont feel comfortable anymore. I would buy a new wardrobe but I know I am just gonna get bigger and in the end it just wont fit again. Just make sure you got a nice outfit or two that fits you for like special occasions.

Clothes aren't too big on my list. I like the simple shirts I find at savers and goodwill, and if they don't fit right, I just "customize them" and make 'em gym shirts. Works like a charm.

Alot of stores will have a clearance section... and what size of shirts are mostly there??? Small and XL or XXL or larger. Most people are Med. or Large... take advantage of that!!! Sales on items that fit you are great.

Anyone ever have an experiance in the "Big and Tall" Stores? I myself am shorter around 5'6"-5'7" yet if I buy a shirt that fits my shoulders its too long and way too much extra material in the stomache area.
My question is do the "Big and Tall" stores also have "Short and wide" items?

As a disclaimer before I start this, I used search and found nothing.
I know even tho we are bodybuilders we all have different bodies(relatively) but are their any clothing lines that seem to fit you better? It seems when I go to anything like Zumies, the clothes are made for someone with no traps or shoulders. Any recommended places to shop?
Thx,

Casual Male XL. I prefer my clothes to be pretty snug, so I usually wear an XL-Tall from there.
As you already know clothes arent meant to fit people that live this lifestyle. I have yet to find a really good store. American eagle fits me alright- i mean the waists on shirts are always going to look like dresses and the jeans are a hard fit but oh well. Just buy bigger clothes and have them drape over you- i think that looks more badass anyways. If you know you got the guns you dont need to be wearing small shirts to show em off....
I have the same problem but mainly with jeans, In the thigh area they fit ridiculously tight but they fit ok everywere else.

everything is made for emo kids these days. i have to buy bigger pants and cinch the waist. our quads just wernt made for those kinds of jeans. at least where i live in az most the guys these days have legs smaller than most arms, maybe its the meth kids are using, we have a big problem with that around here.

i used to have the same problem with my jeans until i found bullhead jeans they are at every pacsun just get the relaxed fit in any style and they have room for bigger quads like ours also famous stars and straps has bigger shirts in smaller sizes like i usually wear a 2X in anything but their single x shirts come to the right length with room for a big chest which is the reason i have to wear 2x when they are sometimes too long for me

Hanes & Fruit of the Loom white Tees are basically all I wear. They fit just fine.
Old navy, def. not the 'coolest' clothing line ever, but shirts are usually bigger in the right spot

Hey 'animal' is about doin work. I don't give a fuck if you wear a pink fuckin tu tu to do your thing bro. Get your shit done. No one said you gotta look sloppy after your done in the gym. Abercrombie is a very stylish brand however they do not make shirts that give any room even in the largest sizes. They are fit very weird (for a shorter bodybuilder like myself). I'd love to wear shit from there, ladies seem to think its the shit.
But check out Ecko Unlimted. They cater to people that aren't nessacary so large but they wear their clothes VERY big. So everything is big and loose fitting. Fitting my big ass and my legs into a pair of jeans? Forget it. But at this store they run them large enough that with a belt or just let them sag a little in the butt and they fit and are quite stylish.

yea, thats true...i work there and i have to buy big sizes due to my chest being larger than the average joe, but then the sleeves are extremely long lol
but if you guys want some really awesome outerwear you should check out the website, it usually runs really big....they have military jackets, fur jackets and wool jackets

i just wear workout pants and tshirts all the time
Fuck don't even mention clothes shopping... i had the worst time shopping this weekend... complete nightmare. Barely found some jeans that fit. Jordan and Adidas track pants wouldn't even fit properly... Large was too tight around the legs and hips and then XL was too long on the legs. Clothes just aren't designed for big people these days.
affliction, sickest designs, fits great, soft, sort of tight, but flexible. only problem t shirts are between 40-60 bucks. i have 5 and they are my favorite.

I find the neck is the biggest problem. I need bigger than 17 1/2 inch dress shirts and they're hard to find in the right proportions.
Whenever I'm in a jam, mens warehouse always pulls through.

lol a 17 fits me pretty decent. But I can't get the last two buttons done. I had to take the collar from a 20 and have my tailor do it up for me. It was either that or walk around with a closed collar with a HUGE shirt, or a good shirt with an open collar.
Man...I hate jeans too, I like wearing the loose shorts with the side pockets, cargo shorts or whatever they are called...as for shirts, it is hard to find some but I like Tilly's, they got a bunch of good shit, but also kinda expensive.
The main problem I have though is with my work pants...while on the shorts my waist is 33 I have to get 36 on these it's more like dress pants or whatever....and are getting so tight around my thigh area...I have to keep going back like every few months to get a new pair, and I don't know what to tell the ladies that I'm there to buy pants again LOL but who the fuck cares, they are getting the money for it so they shouldn't be asking questions.

Mass, I ran into the same problem. I'm a waist 34 and I can't get my jeans past my legs when I try them on....so i had to go to 36, if I try a straight leg cut on 36's I can't get in them either bro....so try the loose fit or boot cuts, there are so many variables also as not all jean brands are created equal ya r just gonna have to try them on and keep the ones that fit.
I think this is a cool problem to have though!!!

Since this thread got brought up here ya go.my jeans I use to wear almost everyday in january dont fit.size 30 waist which is comfortably loose 32 inch length(I got long legs) relaxed fit.Well I tried to put them on a month ago and I could see the veins poppin in my quads through the jeans they were so tight in the legs even the calves(I'm quite proud). So I finally got them over my legs and buttoned em up which was still the same loose fit in the waist.Went to sit down and riiiipppp.Goodbye jeans. It's all loose fit now lol and even those are tight depending on the brand which is mostly levi's(some wrangler)

I'm with Stumblin' on this one. I don't really care about cloths too much. Give me food over fabric any day. (though shopping at a flee market that's like 5 miles from your places does have it's advantages-especially if you can play enough mind games to get them to lower the price by 2.50 ^^)

Had this problem since I was a kid....My mom hated to buy me pants, that is why untill my senior year of high school, I wore shorts, and nothing but....I would get my jeans form the anchor blue store, the baggy skater jeans that were cool to have haning off your ass, fit me just fine. They dont make them anymore, so it is back to hitting every store that sales jeans...Keep looking bro, no two pairs fit the same...It is a pain in the ass.....hit the big and tall stores, the legs are usally a bit bigger.....

ya i have a huge pile of clothes im giving to the goodwill. Huge i should snap a pic. But i dont wear anyhting rly expensive so its not too bad. I used to wear 34 inch pants and there is no way i am getting those on lol. Unless they were like custom tailered to where the legs were bigger but would still be a tight squeeze
I get these military surplus pants that you can pull some lines on each side to tighten the waist. This allows me to fit my legs into size 42 pants and still have them fit around my 32" waist.

For me I've come up for interesting ways of making cloths for cheap. since I'm a photoshop artist (or at least a person who can make designs) I usually just head towards my flee market every month or so wit 2 bucks and a whole mess of walmart plain black and white T's. I go the hind dude I know, pay him like 8 bucks to put all of my designs on and BAM ^^ nice looking shirts for more than half the price.
Also for jeans just go to the flea markets mass, I know alot of guys who have your same issue and they usually find really good tailors there that are willing to do a quick let out for some really nice prices ^^
You know..Im so glad Im not the only one having problems getting into normal clothing! LOL
I have pretty much givin up for now...jeans are hopeless. My calves wont get into any skinny jeans, neither will my thighs and when they do, the waist is so dam big that you can see right down my pants! Its ridiculous really. Forget button up shirts or really cute tops...either I cant close the buttons cause my back got too wide, or the sleeves wont fit right cause my shoulders and arms are too big. I would walk around in my underwear if it was allowed at this point! LOL
So, 24/7 all I wear is sporting gear..Nike, Under Armour, Puma, Everlast..that's it..till I am in show shape...than all the hot clothes are on! LOL

ya know, here's a funny story. I'm about 7 months into a bulk, and along with the added muscle I've gained about 3 inches on my waist. So last ngiht I'm in my martial art class, and we're doing squat jumps. You squat, touch the floor, jump as high as you can bringing your knees into your chest then land in the same position. So, as I'm landing, I hear RIIIP! Luckily it was only a few threads so my ass wasn't hanging out, but damn thats an embarassing feeling.

ummm, get a belt? sports pants and sweats and basicaly anything where the waist can get looser or tighter. fuck i wish i was like you guys, having problems getting into normal sized people clothing. guess i gotta wait another 5-10 years. i fit into pantsso fuckin weirdly. first off, i hate tight pants, fuckin gay and preppy. cant move in them. i stick with sports pants so i can get a size large but adjust the waist downt to size. but my calves are patheticly under developed and my quads grow well and are a better bodypart of mine so imagine what it looks like when i would where i tighter pants. tight on thigh but baggy on calves. not a good look, then again i dont care much at all about clothing.

Yo animal brothers! Whats up.
Late night post, about to hit the sack.
My rest has been cut to 6 1/2 Hrs a Night Since I've been working out at night lately. I always nap when I get home from school though. Close to 3 Hours!
Alright so...
The question posed is in the title.
Being a 16 year old kid, I work at Hollister Co. as a model.
These clothes can make even the skinniest bastards look big, I swear. But when you take these muscle fit shirts and slip em on a big guy like me, It really makes me look jacked. I swear, my arms grow 2 inches every time I put one of these bad boys on!
So... Where do you shop?
Gap, Abercrombie, Express, Macy's, Bloomies?
Just wondering!
Have an excellent night.

Try Walmart, Old Navy, Target.
I buy clothes that are cheap, long lasting and I can work in. Dickies are the best shirts ever if they are a button up short sleeve. Steve and Barry's is also amazing because you pay 7 buck for anything in there and it fits fine. I normally just buy long sleeves and stuff from there. In another part of this thread, we talk about walmart bulk discount. Get a couple of shirts for a couple of bucks. Can't beat a deal like that. I also own shirts that i would drop cash on because they carry a name. They are House of Pain, and soon i hope, Gasp. They are the ones you will see pro's wearing in most of their shoots. I only by these when i feel like wasting cash. I have never got the point of paying 30 bucks or something on a peice of cloth. If its more then 45 bucks and it's not a jacket, hunting coveralls, or Steel toe boots, I say screw it.
mine is cammies for the next 7 months deployed whooo hooo
Ok..talk about the frustrating life of a FBB'r. Before..on a bulk..nothing fit my fatass..now..Im getting lean and mean for my show..everythng is falling off my hips and stopping mid thigh! LOL..cant win! LOL

There's always elastic waistbands, Toni. Or drawstings... Maybe have the left side of your closet be your bulking clothes and the other half for cutting. You could just strut around in your posing suit...

I just hate jean shopping.. Nothing fits the Thighs then everything else is big lol

oh this was hilarious...strut around in my posing suit? LOL...and I dont do elastic! LOL
A lot of shirts are like this for me--especially dress shirts. They fit fine or just a tad bit tight in the shoulders and upper lat area but there's so much material at my waist that it makes me look ridiculous. After walking around for a while the extra stuff puffs out and it looks like I have about 20 pounds of back fat right above the waistline...:(
I talked to a guy who used to do a lot of bodybuilding, and he said that if you ask for the "athletic cut" shirts (if you can find a place that has them), they'll fit better as they taper down from wide shoulders to a smaller waist.
Dress shirts are the worst. I feel like there's a parachute tucked in to the back of my pants because I have to get an 18neck 35sleeve, and they cut the shirt for someone with a 42" waist.
During this bulk I've had to buy new work pants (Dickies regular fit) because my 36x32's got to the point where the chaffing between the legs was unbearable, and my wallet had no room in the back pocket. 38x32's are my savior.
As far as t shirts.. I have to rock XXL's in the stylish brands.. (Obey, DGK.. a few others..) But I can still fit an XL in LRG.
I've given up on most polo shirts.. cause the sleeves are too constricting. The most common problem I have however, is that they get so damned tight in the arm pit area from the chest and back being too wide that they run between your pits like sand paper all day. I'm talking almost all XL's depending upon the brand, and most XXL's.
I have two different lifting belts for cutting and bulking because the change is so drastic. I get down to one hole left on the medium belt at my thinnest, and I go up to the fifth set of holes on my large at the biggest.
I need to find a good tailor.

I know it's been a while since this started but I'd like to offer an answer (no it is NOT related to fabric). The cost of fabric itself is almost negligable. Before I was old enough to get a work permit, I cleaned the warehouse of my grandmother's sewing company. When these companies make their products, they make a certain number of each size based on what they think will move off the shelves.
If they make too many, they eat the cost so the sizes least likely to sell (farther from "average") go up in price to compensate for the likelyhood that they will not move off the shelves. It's a numbers game. Sucks to be one of those 'less common' sizes but they have to make a profit somehow.
As for the 'cut' remember that the models used to determine the cut and how the item is proportioned and drapes aren't bodybuilders. As such, most clothes were not meant to fit someone thusly proportioned. I lucked out (sort-of) the army buys half my clothes lol
I buy out of REI a lot but then I'm new to the iron game and still relatively 'aversge' so that may change.
Just my 2 cents.

I have run into problems for clothes shopping
Jeans from most companies do not fit me well at all
Just to throw a few obvious ones: AE, Abercrombie and DKNY
They are now into the skinny, I have been losing all respect to clothing companies recently - a indirect segregation in my opnion
Has anyone noticed that they bring in male models that carry a larger upperbody and no legs whatsoever
The shirts are getting pretty thight on me (I hear threads snap at times), since all the workers are moving paper
They are flapping with the wind while we are making craters with every footstep as a comparison
As you can tell, I have been getting sick of these and wanted simpler Jeans
I wanted Levis, Lee, Wranglers -> something simple that wouldn't fall apart (AE sucked big one at that)
I cannot find Wranglers and Lees to my surprise (they still exist, right?)
Levi's have converted to follow the other companies and them punk kids (unheard of)
I felt my freakin package was gonna be flatten by one pair (Guess a characteristic I made about them punks is right - nothing to carry at all)
I thought I was going to rip the jeans once I reached my thighs on another
To my surprise, Timberland fits, and carry a little extra material also
I will be looking into this company now, until others cop on
Shirts and other tops I get from random groups (Timberland, clearance Polo, Aeropostale)
Dress shirts have not been that much of concern. Well, not yet that is...
I needed that vent, but I need a sandwich now
"Get ME a whopper" lol (Funniest tagline I've heard in while off of TV)
I can still get lees in my town but they are now mostly in jsut the small stores, or farming towns. Guess what, the store i go to is part of both!.

I'm screwed with casual clothes. I work in Asia, and sizes here are already small. And most shops doesn't sell bigger than XL, which is a bit of a problem for me... Whenever I find shops that sell bigger, then it fits around chest and shoulders, but I could use the restover material around my gut to fucking make a sailboat.
I'm sick of it, and I'm going to go 'au natural' in the streets soon...

I have 10-12 Big Dogs T-shirts they go up to XXL, but they are real XXL shirts..... I'm 240 and they fit good even after you wash them. Plus they are 2 for $30, can't beat that with a stick. If you don't have a Big Dog near you, order 1 online and see how it fits.

Well today i just shredded through 2 pair of shorts. My legs are getting bigger and bigger, and well... the butt part is always shredding open. And i dont like it to say the least.
Are there any kind of sites where they sell big sized sports clothing... I feel that this world revolves around skinny and puny bicep warriors.

I also have that problem being a shorter guy myself. Large usually fits well enough to be tight but not skin tight, but then the rest of the shirt hangs a good 3-4 inches past my waist.
guys this is off topic but you cant have colored text in your sig unless its something official. read the rules guys
