Personally I dont like to eat too close to work out time. I generally push my self to where I feel like throwing up. I have a weak stomach when it comes to fatigue and nervousness so if I feel like im going to puke, I will. I will eat about 2 hours before working out. If I train in the morning, I will drink a protein shake and maybe an energy bar before starting. But always eat after man. But hey man its all up to you, if its working for you keep it up, just thought I'd let you know how I do it.

Keep them plates movin'

I would definatly eat, before lifting, cardio i may not, but thats just me. I would a least have a whey shake, and like animal pump before an early mourning training session

Always eat before and after training...the body needs food, carbs for energy and protein for muscle growth. Pre-workout I like oats mixed with protein powder (Ultra Iso Whey) I throw a shake (protein-carb) in my gym bag for post-workout.

At times when i train in the morning because of college and work, I usually make myself a protein shake. Just take your blender and throw in whey, eggs, bananas, peanut butter, and other fruits if you want. I just drink that and i go train 45 minutes later.

my biggest meal of the day is usually breakfast... i was in a rush because of work a couple weeks ago and just ate a balance bar before going; big fuckin mistake, had the spins the entire workout and felt as if i was not having a good training session at all... pound those calories down.

YOU MUST EAT before you lift...one hour is perfect...make sure you choose some good carbs so it will fuel you during your workout

You really must eat something. Shit, there are 24 hours in the day, that's 8-12 meals. You should be able to get one or two in before working out.

I see a huge difference between eating before a work out and not. I seem to have flat work outs with out eating first.

"You'd rather miss a training session than a meal."

I'd never skip breakfast and go lift weights.

Yes you should eat. Your body has nothing in the morning you gotta feed it the carbs for the energy and the protein for the muscles. Just like BigAnt said.

EAT! no question there. it's important to balance your blood sugar levels before lifting. if you lift first thing without eating for approx 8 hours from the night before then you are in trouble, and your blood sugar levels will be low and chances are you'll get dizzy and nauseous. eat up man.

Gotta get something in before your workout, especially in the morning when you've gone several hours without anything, even if it's cardio.

Apparently (from what I have read) our bodies need roughly 1.5 hours of sleep for a complete sleep cycle. I use this to my advantage. I time my sleep so that I wake up 6 hours after falling asleep to eat a meal of whey protien and a cereal like wheaties. I then sleep for anouther 1.5 hours and when I wake up I take my shock therapy and sometimes stack 2. Half an hour later I am at the gym pounding the weights. Try sdmething similar and see if it works for you.

Work with your body and against the weight.

If you're only planning on doing cardio in the a.m., it doesn't make sense to eat. Your body has had no food for atleast 7 + hours while you slept. Now, hopefully you are not catabolizing because you should have drank a caseinate protein shake the previous night. Casein protein is slower at absorbing into the body which is a good thing while you sleep and therefore prevents the onset of catabolization. Back to the point--when you go do cardio after you wake up, your body is forced to use fat reserves for energy which is a good thing. When I do early a.m. cardio, I make sure I take some Animal Cuts and some liquid L-carnitine which aids in the burning of fat for energy. Make sure you drink plenty of water, otherwise you could pass out. Don't worry about the water weight/bloat--you can piss it out along with the other toxins and B vitamins from the Animal Pak. However, if you lift in the morning, it would be a good idea to eat. Something like a whey protein shake along with a banana, etc. Make sure you don't over do your shake, as most guys do--your body can only process 40 grams of protein at a time, anything more puts a strain on your kidneys/liver and could become fat. Also, eating too close to your lift, puts your body in a predicament. If the body is busy rushing blood to the stomach and gastric area, how can you expect to get a pump in your biceps (a little exaggerated but you get the point). One more thing, studies have shown that when you wake up, your testosterone levels are the highest. Hope this helps. Training hard shouldn't be overlooked for training smart.

I forgot to add this part: I usually wait 2 to 3 hours after eating to lift to make sure everything has been thoroughly digested. But, this is not always the case. Fish, chicken, whey protein, and et cetera absorb quickly, at least for me. However, beef and other non-white meats take a bit longer for me to digest. The point is don't eat like an asshole right before you lift. I mean, you can't expect to fully digest a heavy meal half an hour before you lift. You'll feel sluggish and probably throw up. The key is to space out the meals along with the lifts. Just trying to give a bit of common sense advice. Everything I've mentioned is out of experience and I'm not pulling it out of my ass or copying and pasting from Muscle & Fitness, FLEX, and all those other magazines. I've done my own research and tried to use it practically. I hope this helps anyone looking to learn. Peace.

Flex and muscle fitness are in the game of giving you shitty advice that won't work for the majority of the population.

The MOST important time to eat is PRE workout. I've seen studies, and we're starting to see some pretty solid real world results with having people consume virtually all of hteir protein in the pre, during, and post workout window. I'm not completely sold on this idea, but I sure as hell know that my body needs food before and DURING a workout.

I always eat prior, about an hour before, and right after I train. I have done cardio first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, when I was close to my last show...zero carbs as well...and it was tough getting my ass on the bike, but once I got started..an hour flew by and I felt great. It was one hell of a mind game though.

you never want to lift on empty. cardio is ok. but keep it light, around 60% Heart rate. latley i have been getting crazy pumps off of 2 organic poptarts and a protien shake. then eat a huge meal afterwards. dont be afraid to eat some sugar before or after training.

Organic poptarts? they have that now. You see, being overseas...the bases only stock up with very limited selections. I want organic poptarts now! Lucky you!

Nice Big Jawn, exactly the way I approach meals prior to training. Whether it be morning, noon, or nighttime, I work my schedule to ensure I have the proper fuel in my system for lifting.
