There is nothing wrong with yoga.
Not all yoga is for everyone though. We know this when we go to a class and we can't do half of the required positions…these classes are not for us. Sucks because those classes are the ones with all of the hottest chicks but hey. whats the purpose of the class?
If you aren't mobile enough to perform the movements for your sport then you should def spend the time to work on it…if you can perform all of the movements unhindered, then there is no need in becoming hyper mobile. i.e. a powerlifter has no need in being able to holds his hands together and do pass throughs from his front over his head to behind his body….ive never seen a 500+ bencher with hyper mobile shoulders…. bodybuilding on the other hand, a lot of old school guys like ronnie had great mobility in doing the splits for example, perhaps this aided in muscle quality?
Here's a little story... it starts with, I do yoga. Still do..
Ok, dated a girl (now ex) who got me into yoga and we went for fun. I couldn't do any of the moves. A few basic ones and that's it. However I did work up a good sweat, joints felt pretty good after the classes, and honestly I was less stressed. I was the "joke" of the class and everyone got a laugh when I'd try to do some crazy bird pose. Fast forward, we break up, she moves, I continue the yoga classes every other week for the sake of my mobility and to help my stress levels. I still can't do shit like half these people but what I can do is helping me a lot with ROM almost everywhere. Went to a yoga class, they had food and wine afterwards, people started asking what I did, about lifting, stuff like that.. fast forward again... 4 of them are clients of mine. I started hanging out with one girl also who I'd had a thing for (she also went to my gym), and we had a lot of 1 on 1 private yoga sessions where I learned to do more advanced poses, and, well, the sex was great.
Point being. Go do yoga. If nothing else than to see hot girls in yoga pants and to feel better in a lot of ways. It can't hurt!
At Richard Simmons 😎
I stuck my head in the hot yoga room one day, actually thought about going, if it will help a lift, shit im in!!!!
Receiving some awesome feedback here, thanks brothers.
I have somewhat implemented yoga since this initial post, not necessarily in the form of classes. I have taken some common poses that I've seen done in yoga and it has helped with loosening up my hips and low back for days requiring squats or deads.
P.S.-it also helps the day after legs when you're in pain just trying to get seated on the can.
I for one, Would be interested to hear how you personally benefited from doing yoga.

It's been most beneficial in regards to mobility. I'm a cop, so needless to say I spend a lot of time seated in my cruiser and often have to hit the gym after a 12 hour shift. On leg days and days when I am doing deadlifts, I feel stiff as a board trying to get warm. Implementing some basic yoga movements on most days has made things easier on my joints and has shortened the amount of sets needed before I feel ready to hit my working sets.

Glad it's working brother
Football players, mma fighters, lot's of others seem to swear by it. Go for it. I was actually just looking for a good yoga program myself.
Funny thing, while looking for a program today online, I ran across some thing being marketed as "DDPYoga". Actually, it popped up in my FB feed, I guess because the google search cookies told facebook I was following that topic.
Anyways, DDP Yoga? What? And sure enough, there goes old ass Diamond Dallas Page, from TV WCW wrestling that I haven't watched since I was in grade school.
I'm just about to start rolling my eyes, thinking man he must need the cash to advert for some yoga thing, but NO. The press releases actually look legit.
Says the internet, Page had some back issues from all the wear and tear from his pro wrestling career, and yoga was a big part of his rehab, and it worked for him.
So, he put the stuff that worked into a package he marketing as "yoga for regular guys" (not spindly dance pros or whatever). Now he's calling it DDPyoga. Now I might actually see what it costs.
eh I just do dislocations with a broomstick for my upper body
touch my toes 20-30x throughout the day and stretch out my glutes and hips on the precor stretch thing at my gym for lower
all I need
I think being hyper mobile can actually be a negative in lifting
I have been doing yoga type movements for the last few weeks and my body has been feeling better than ever. If you plan to lift heavy, then doing mobility work or something along those lines like yoga is essential to staying injury free and extending the longevity of your career long-term.
Rinn Dinn Brewery in my town offers a $10 yoga class once a month and it includes on complementary beer afterward. I'm sold.
