AMEN.
It ain't over until its over.
Are we suppose to accept old age gracefully? Are we supposed to accept frailty and vulnerability because we're not as physically capable as we used to be? I live in a city that's unforgiving, I live in a city where gun violence is at an all time high. Not a suburb Not a township or a village. You can't allow yourself to show weakness here you'll make yourself a victim if you do. My "urban" camouflage is my animal shirt and my bandanna, and oh yes the fact that I still give the illusion that I could be a worthy adversary. First I give thanks to the Almighty! Secondly to the iron that saved me from the streets when I was young and now when I'm old. I must prevail! Old fucks rule!🦍Silverbacks kick ass!
I like to think that physical culture will be a part of my life....for my life.....so....
As the famous actor Charlton Heston stated....
"From my cold dead hands!!"
Yes an old Sinatra tune that became the anthem for a lot of people like me back in the day.Quite reaffirming, No?
Well here I go again. A bunch of us old timers were recently invited to a banquet that's recognizing us for our past accomplishments in the iron game coming up later this month. Anyways I got a glimpse of the program that featured pictures of us from back in the day. I got to be honest it brought up a lot of resentment. Yes they all looked great! Yep the biggest muscles money could buy. I took seconds to a lot of big name guys back then. The only thing that seperated me from taking top honors was something I refused to become a slave to. Funny thing I also saw pictures of how these jerk offs look now and it doesn't even look like they ever even lifted let alone national and world champions. Yeah I guess I've made my peace with what Don Adams used to say "Missed it by that much"! But you know what I'm glad I did it my way!
As an older lifter i've made a few changes, that have helped in minimizing the chance of injury and aiding the recovery process.
I rarely train more than 2 days in a row.
I cycle my poundages.
No back to back heavy workouts
Warm ups are not optional they are mandatory
Some of the dumb shit i did for the first 10 years of training....
Neck presses with 315 for reps
Squats with a narrow stance off a 2x4 with 405
Bent over rows with 225 standing on a bench
Press behind the neck with 205 for reps
Dips with 140lb. DB
Pulled a 500lb. Deadlift cold on a bet.
I rarely did deadlifts i was proving a point.
Squated with a 150lb. woman sitting on my shoulders for 100 reps.
It can all be gone in an instant! Illness, injury, accidents and incidents. If you guys are like me you've invested a great deal of time trying to reach a certain level of size and strength. We take our supplements and go to great lengths to properly feed our bodies. If we're lucky we are "allowed" the less fortunate are delt the shitty hand. Be grateful, be humble and consider yourself one lucky sob if you're "allowed".
1) Standing cable curls / seated tricep ext 4 sets

64 here and I'm still nailin the weightpile. Never give it up is my suggestion less you wither away. I'm refuse to wither away. I've never been very active with any forum, just my nature. I still check in and see occasionally, see whats new. Cheers
Now a days I try to remain as positive as life and circumstances will allow. With each passing day I think to myself lets make whatever time is left memorable! In reality most mornings are a struggle and i find myself saying what have i got to prove by doing this? Well I dont have the strength and stamina I used to, but I'm going to be the best 61 I'm allowed to be. That shit includes handling 315 for squats, 275 for inclines, 110 for DB rows, 205 for seated militaries and 135 for BB curls.
Is this something new or am i so out of touch. Since when do you go heavy and low reps on iso movements. That is some silly shit. I watched this freakin kid doing cable flyes with weight so heavy he could hardly move the stacks. He barely managed 4 or 5 reps. I turn and see another guy doing supported t-bar rows, once again so heavy it limited his range of motion to such a degree he never got a complete contraction. Whats the point!
The proper term is muscle head. Meat head already has a meaning.
Back in the day I routinely did 1000 reps of ab work daily. My weight went up but my waist stayed under 30 inches isnt that in a sense spot reduction? I went from 176lbs. to 212 lbs. In 9 years and my waist remained the same.
