Ha ha ... your body may be old Sparty but your mind is as sharp as a 30 year old ( I picked 30 because usually by 30 there is knowledge and common sense a brewing)
Dealing with some health issues that come along with being 65. Nerve damage is causing severe problems in my spine, and I had a small stroke about 5 years ago..
Still trying to stay on the grind, but it gets steeper as you get older.
In April of '18, left a job after 23 years. Started over in the nuclear industry. Change wasn't easy, but it was something I had to do. I needed it for me, my family and my sanity. I hated going to work. Not the job itself, just the changed made in management weren't for the better. I had told the wife a long time ago that if I ever hated going to work, I was going to find something new. Even if that meant starting over. So, I did.
Kids are growing up fast as hell. They are now 17, 14, 14 and 8. We will have 3 in high school next year. The oldest is excited to have her brother play football, but I doubt he will make Varsity. Depends on him...sort of. During this pandemic, she has been running his conditioning. I get multiple messages a week about how he comes in all sweaty, nasty and on the verge of tears. Cause she pushes him. And it's a good thing!! At 14 years old, he is already taller than I am (6'3"), wears a size 15 shoe and weighs about as much as I do. He broke his finger in the fall during football and the orthopedic told the wife his growth plates were still wide open. She figures he'll be between 6'5" and 6'8".
Other than that, that's about it. We work a lot of hours at the plant. We just finished a refueling outage but with the pandemic ongoing, we are running split shops. We are on a 2 week rotation of 0700-1500 and 1600-0000. I am finishing up my first week on 1600-0000, stayed over 4 hours this morning which means I left here at 0400. We do have a pretty nice gym on the property that all employees have use of. Hit the gym Monday at 0015 after work. Just trying to get back into it, nothing heavy. Just some bi's and tri's. Arms were barely usable until today. So I will be hitting the gym after shift some time.
It's good to see you again! I finally had to retire, because my back just wouldn't take any more. Other than that, about 3 years ago we bought a house on about and acre and a half, are are living the quiet country life.

Sorry to hear, brother. We are actually looking at moving out of town into the country in a few years. Can't take the city life anymore. The mrs has been in 3 accidents in the past 18 months. 2 of them hit and runs. The 3rd, a few weeks ago, was literally 3 hours after she got her new car back after having it fixed from the last hit and run.
I will be hitting the gym here in a few. Not really doing much but getting back into the swing of things. I was ready my journey from page 1. Just to do it. I also came to the realization, it has been 5 years since shizz passed. I don't know why, but it kind of hit me hard. Thinking I may hit up some of those old workouts. Nostalgia maybe....I don't know. I am not really sure what I am looking for out of this go round. Better shape, better physique.....just a better me I guess. Not really about keeping numbers right now. At least my arms are recovered enough that I can eat without much of a struggle. Monday was just a simple bi's and tri's day. Nothing heavy. But they have been useless since Tuesday!!!!
Peace ya'll. Have a good night. I'll check in tomorrow.......
Like I said before, not really worrying about weights or anything like that right now. Just trying to get this old body used to it again. Quick recap....
10 minutes on Eliptical - moderate pace
Shoulder warm up - multiple exercises, quite a few reps
I'm thinking I am going to run a 5 x 5. Get back into the swing of things. Simple yet effective. Throw in some cardio pre and or post w/o. This is a fun setup and I am not chasing any numbers at the moment. Just wanting to get back into some sort of shape. I'll try to keep this journey up to date. I see that not many people are around anymore. Which is cool. This is more for me than anything else. Workouts this week will be starting around 0015. Unless we work over, then they will start around 0415. Next week, our shift rotates back to days. So workouts will be around 1515. For two weeks, then back to afternoons.

I like to think that only the good looking ones are left here. ;)
5x5 is an excellent way to start back. I built up my base strength doing 5x5 before doing other things. I did 5x5 with a straight weight then switched to a 5x5 pyramid

Yea, I didn't even bother with max or anything. Leaving the ego at the door. If you go back in this journey, I was at some pretty decent weights. Just not sure I will or want to work back up to that point. We'll see. I have to do a lot of climbing now, whether it be stairs or scaffold builds/tear downs. Just want to get back into it and get some work in. Too long out of the weights, chasing other interests. Just going to follow the basic template for now. Throw in a little cardio here and there. see where it goes.
Just as this was getting back off the ground, the powers that be have decided to close down the gym here at work. Why? Because a sister plant in PA had a worker test positive for the coronavirus. It has nothing to do with us, or that person being here. That person wasn't here for our outage. But none the less, we no longer have use of the gym. Lots of people here not happy about it. But, it is what it is........
I have been using stones, poles, buckets filled with sand...anything I can get my hands on. Feeling good and just making things work. You got this
Thanks for the support, brother.
Got word today that the rotating shifts they have us on right now is expected to last until September. None of the shop guys are happy about that. Pretty much ruins whatever summer we could have had. I just hope they open the gym back up on May 1.

Hey MM!
Good to see you back in action! I haven't been in here for too long, so apparently I'm not good looking! Haha.
Life has thrown me a bunch of curves lately, but I'm glad to see friendly faces still grinding.
Keep at it my brother!
