"I don't need no arms around me.
And I dont need no drugs to calm me.
I have seen the writing on the wall.
Don't think I need anything at all.
No, don't think I'll need anything at all.
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall."-Pink Floyd
If you guys have not heard the sad news yet Ben Weider passed away. If I had to think about a single most important person for the pioneering of early body building it was Weider. He created bodybuilding IMO and was responsible for people like Arnold and Franco and some of the early building blocks.
"Strive for excellence, exceed yourself, love your friends, speak the truth, practice fidelity and honor your father and mother. These principles will help you master yourself, make you strong, give you hope and put you on the path to greatness."
- Joe Weider
"The bench press, parallel squat, deadlift, and standing press have been the staples of any strong man's repertoire. Those who ignore these lifts are generally the people who suck at them. If you get good at those, you'll get good at other stuff, as they have such a huge carryover." -Jim Wendler
Pain is weakness leaving the body. It is an necessary evil. In tough times it will show its ugly face, but you must fight on because your main goal is to become stronger. Pains goal is to keep you from reaching yours.
I had the good fortune of meeting Ben last month at the Olympia. Something told me to approach him after I saw him coming up the escalators heading towards the meeting rooms where I was waiting for some clients. I thanked him for everything he has done for the sport of bodybuilding and even took a picture with him. I will cherish that picture now more than ever...rest in peace Ben...

"WE HAVE SENT THE MESSAGE LOUD AND CLEAR. WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, THE HUNGRY ONES. THIS IS OUR JUNGLE AND WE ARE THE ANIMALS. THIS IS WHERE THE STRONG GET STRONGER AND THE WEAK GET EATEN. THIS IS WHERE MUSCLE AND THE MIND BECOME ONE, FUSION OF THE FUTURE. ONCE YOU ENTER THERE IS NO RETURN. YOU SURVIVE OR DIE. THIS IS OUR PARADISE. BECOME ONE OF US." ~RICK BAYARDI
On October 17th, 2008, Ben Weider suddenly passed away in Montreal at the Jewish General Hospital. He was 85 years old.
Ben was the younger of the famous Weider brothers who founded the IFBB over 50 years ago. Ben, along with his older brother Joe, brought bodybuilding to over 170 countries world wide.
Ben Weider was one of the few men who brought bodybuilding out of the dark. He took it from being a taboo cult and into a recognizable sport to most of the world. Ben was a true pioneer of this sport and was very charasmatic about it.
He will be missed by family and all of the bodybuilding world and will wont be forgotten.
