Personally, I think its mental more than conditioning.
The thought of setting that damn object down because you feel like an elephant is on it is whats the big battle.
Every inch counts and you need to make sure you have the WILL to not drop it.
Besides that, keep up on your conditioning and pickup Sandbags and Kegs for the longest distance possible!

Broke my record of 8 balls of noodles.
Each ball weighs 8 ozs pre-cooked.

Those kinds of events will give your hamstrings and glutes some serious work too bro.
But I think its more mental conditioning that you have to overcome when you do it.
