This is the summer of the Animal Barbell Club. From a runaway Spring to the end of the road at the Olympia in September, this has no doubt been one of the best and busiest periods in the young history of the Animal Barbell Club movement.
Steel Gym, New York NY, Five Boroughs ABC
June was closed out in a big way with a couple of stellar events occurring on the same exact day. On Saturday June 26th, in conjunction with the Universal sponsored INBF Hercules show, naturalguy and S. Clarida met up with IFBB Pro Vinny G and ABC co-chairman C. Detroit Bodybuilding Co, Detroit MI, Detroit ABC
That same afternoon, I traveled to the Midwest to hit it hard with one of the most vibrant and loyal ABC Chapters in existence, Detroit. Connecting to train at the new Motown hardcore haven, the Detroit Bodybuilding Company, the Motor City Madmen led by ghost and digitalbeast hoisted some sick tonnage. Coming out to train hard and share stories and laughs with me were ABC members travelling from as far away as Chicago, Ohio and Ontario, Canada. Man's World, Trenton NJ, Jersey ABC
This past weekend on July 17th, the Jersey ABC chapter had an absolutely insane event in the rough and tumble capital of our state, Trenton. Man’s World Gym, run by former national level bodybuilder Joe Dodd, is a one of a kind circus of a gym (literally, wait until you see the pics), but one perfectly outfitted for no bullshit hardcore training. I was joined there by Big Ant, Big Al, S. Clarida, Big Wides, naturalguy, Travis Rogers, Enforcer, Aggression and many more good brothers. July also has Animal Barbell Club gatherings taking place across the map with events in the Bay Area of Northern Cali, Akron/Canton in Ohio and Seattle. August also promises much activity in places far and wide like Southern Cali, Ontario and even Japan.
Gold's Gym, East Hartford CT, Special ABC
Locally, we have much on tap. First C.Coronato and naturalguy travel to Hartford, CT for the Europa Supershow. There they’ll be to support The House as he takes the stage and to stage an ABC at the Gold’s in Hartford this Sunday morning, July 25th at 11am. Not only will The House and the boys be there to represent, but Connecticut native Ox will also be there to train hard and shoot the shit. Diesel Gym, North Brunswick NJ, Special ABC
The following day, July 26th, making the pilgrimage South from Hartford back to our home state, the boys will “Bring The House Down” to Jersey for a special Monday ABC at a fresh, new spot, Diesel Gym in North Brunswick. This event will take place at 5:30pm and will be attended by a cast of Jersey characters including myself, Vinny G, C. Coronato, Aggression, Enforcer, naturalguy and of course The House. Skiba's Barbell Club, Carteret NJ, Jersey ABC
On Saturday, August 7th at 1pm, the Animal Barbell Club returns to a favorite Jersey destination, the powerlifting dungeon that is Skiba’s Barbell Club in Carteret, NJ. I’ll be in the house as will many of our most hardcore local brethren, like Skiba’s hitman and FORVM powerlifting freak Tek. This is our third time invading Skiba’s and it gets more crazy and more intense every time. My boy C. Coronato is currently in Connecticut representing Animal at the Europa Supershow expo, nonetheless, he left some words of wisdom behind…
“Half way through summer and the ABC action is just ramping up. There are some great events, that I personally, cannot wait for, coming up. Four states to see The House in peak condition. Connecticut, Jersey, September in Cleveland and then finally at The O in Las Vegas. That alone should get you excited. If you have still yet to come out to an event, there is nothing to worry about. Everyone is there to train and learn. No one is judging or holding themselves on a pedestal. I’ll see you all through the states in these next few months.”
Training in these sweatbox gyms, putting in work on the hottest summer days, it reminds you that you’re alive. Don’t forget that it is from these extreme conditions that many of the greats have been forged, so don’t pussy out and run for the air conditioning. Breathe it in. Soak it up. It is good to be training hard this summer and and great to be getting it in alongside my brothers in the Animal Barbell Club.
