Hey guys, what are your opinions on keto? Im lookin to cut down 20lbs , heard keto was a good way to go. Lemme know your opinions, thanks bros.
I'm not the best one to suggest advice on keto as i've never used it but I've continually heard great things in terms of BF% decrease but hard to maintain the lean mass they got during the bulk. Try it for a bit and if you begin to lose muscle, might just try carb cycling. I've gotten my best cut gains and my personal favorite way to trim BF

Well im thinking about a "ckd" diet, a cyclic keto diet.. you do no carbs on weekdays then for 36 hours on weekend you card up.. "refuel".. is this what you meant by carb cycling? Sorry i dont know much about diets.. iv never dieted in my life i just been eating a lot for the past 6 months and getting big.

I have seen some people do this and have success. My personal use of the carb cycling is on my big days...Chest, Back, and Legs i go high carbs(roughly 200 grams, not much of a numbers guy in my diet unless pre contest) then on shoulders and arms days if i incorporate arms i'll do 100 grams then on off and cardio days NO carbs at all. If this doesn't look good for you, some people just do an actual cycle of 200 grams, 150 grams, 100 grams, 50 grams NONE, and repeat

That sounds like a good idea too! Damn, so many options idk where to start lol, Do you think even the cyclic keto version (weekend carb ups) will cause too much muscle loss? I expect to lose a lil bit of muscle since i am cutting, but I dont wanna lose too much..

That might depend on the split your using, i'm not really much to use a keto diet and so I really can't say much and tell you much about it. But if a keto diet allows it, you should definitely try and get a good 40-60% of your caloric intake to be from fats(not to mention you EFA's!) That way your body will be using up a lot of fat as your fuel source and then you can restore your glycogen tanks on the weekends. That'd be my best advice, hopefully someone with some experience with keto dieting can help you. Good luck!
keto is sweet for the first few lbs, but then it starts to really suck...id suggest a keto diet for your 1st 10lbs...take a week off and eat fairly clean for that week, maybe gain a lb or 2, then dive into carb cycling on a 2 day keto, 1day low carb 1 day keto, 1 day higher carb (use sweet potaters n oatmeal)...so if youre not competing or need to lose the lbs by an exact certain time, this is a bit easier on the bod and its more enjoyable throughout the week cause youre not always miserable....keep in mind its a 5 day cycle so if you start monday you end it friday and start it again saturday...coupled with cardio this one works nicely
To all the non-believeres. I believe. To all the can nots. I can. To all the naysayers in this world, my dictionary contains no such word. To myself. I will.

I am not competing and dont plan on it for a year or 2, Its just Iv always had trouble burning fat, i dont gain fat but i dont lose it either, But I gain mass like its nothing.. so the keto just sounded like something that would really jumpstart my fat burning, I think your suggestion is a good one and I might just go with that. Thanks for your help man. Anyone else wanna chime in?
I have run Keto and as well as a conventional diet. I have gotten results from both. I liked Keto because i felt I was not as hungry all the time, but i felt like my skin got thinner on a conventional diet. I really think it comes down to personal preference. They both will work.

So you didnt lose any muscle while on keto? Im hearing mixed things, some people are saying they lost large amounts of muscle, while others say they maintained.. even gained some while on keto.
I think keto is one of the best fat loss tools. I think it is so good that you should save it for the end of your diet when you have no other carbs left to cut. This will help you once your progress stalls.

I think people who lose a lot of muscle are doing something wrong.
Ox does Keto (or did) and he said you want to figure out your lean body fat percentage, multiply that by 1.5, and then match your protein's calories with your fat calories. So you'd do, if you were 200, 1200 calories from the protein, and then divide 1200 by 9 because fat has 9 calories per. So you'd end up with 133 fat grams, and 300 grams of protein.
No carbs whatsoever though, or you'll feel like crap. He says you feel like crap for 4-5 days and then after that you pump back up and you feel awesome.

You got me lost bro..some of your post isnt makin sense to me lol. 300grams of protein? The idea on keto is to consume more fat than protein and no carbs at all. If your getting more protein than fat , your body is gunna rely on protein as fuel isnt it? which i would imagine you dont want.. i read somewhere that you multiply your body weight by 10 to get your calories. So for me 2100 cals. then take your lean body mass, mines around 180, and you get 180grams protein a day.. the rest of your cals should be from fat.. atleast thats what i got out of it.. but then again thats why i posted this.. to learn more about it..
Nope not if you do it right. Okay 4 months before the inaugural Phx Pro in Febuary of 2010 I was just ending what turned out to be a dirty bulk, I had jumped to 28% bodyfat, 215 lbs, and ended up with a 38 inch Belly measurement (36 waist) I went thru a lot of programs Cycling Carbs, Heavy Carbs, ect, High R low Weight, Low R Heavy weight ect
Got big, Put on great muscle size but still had the dam belly. Nothing I did could get me that lean V look with a sub 33 waist, until I discovered Keto the Paleo and Primal and now I have adapted the 3 concepts into one that seems to be working for me.
These pics are just to show the OP a story line.I'm not hyjaking his thread.
This is where I decided my bulk had gone wrong
since then I have been on stage March 12th with a 32 in belly and 31 in waist
This pic is 10 days ago, after a 21 day zero carb run.I was down to 161.3
Last night 7 days from that from that Carb up I am 164 @ 7.33% Bodyfat, 30 in waist and 31 in Belly measurement, this pic is last night before bed screwing around with my camera
Today has been my 7 or 8 day cheat day for Carbs and tommorow its back on Zero Carbs for 17 days this time..
Yes I lost some muscle but not much if you go to my Bodyspace you can see where pre show I had 48.5 in shoulders then by showtime they had dropped to 48 , post surgery I lost 2 in now I am back to 47.5, Not alot of mass loss I am carrying more lean muscle than I was before Keto. So you decide what you want to try. My story should give you the positive side of Keto.

I've never done it but that's what Ox does, he follows the palumbo keto plan. You match fat calories to protein calories, and you do the 1.5 protein so you reduce the chance of losin muscle.

Best way to find out would be to run it yourself and see what happens. I've done both. Keto didn't really work for me. I wasn't a fan. Others love it. Give it a shot and see how you react. Remember, the first few weeks will suck while your body switches into Ketosis, so don't give up too quickly.

Yeah thanks guys, im gunna still keep trying to learn more about it then just give it a go and see how it goes!, and I read a post on bb.com that you cant eat fat after workout? That doesnt even make sense does it.. Does it mean just the post workout? What it says in the post is "you must only eat fat and protein , except on workout days because you cant repair muscle with fat, your body will try to absorb the fat but it must absorb only protein" something like that.Which makes no sense cus you need to eat fats all day to stay in ketosis right? Is there anyone on here thats ran a keto diet and had success..that would be willing give me an example of their diet? That would help me out a lot.
