I think the one prong looks better. Maybe that´s people´s issue.

Maybe I should know this but is there a difference in performance/ support from single to double prong? I just found double prong to be a pain in the ass. Always used single prong.

Absolutely!!! Two prong gives you FAR better support and stability. Wouldn't use a single prong belt even if it was given to me.
I imagine people want a one prong belt so they can really crank down on it and it's not as restrictive around the waist. I can understand for Benching or possibly even Deadlifting, but Squatting IMO you really should have a two prong belt!
