What was your defining moment? When did you decide this was going to be your chosen path? We all have our story, WHAT'S YOURS?
I don't have some big epiphany or anything like that. I was an athlete all through school and through HS. I was 154lbs at 18 after basic training and knew I wanted to add some size. I honestly chose bodybuilding because right as I got into it Jay Cutler finally beat Ronnie and it was this huge story of perseverance. I'd imagine like most, Arnold is what got me into lifting weights in general.
"Ask yourself this: if everyone else is training once per week, what are you doing that's so different that you would expect to get better results than anybody else? You might have good genetics, be tough enough and disciplined enough to train hard... but so are a lot of people." - BOSS
"I think I must be overtraining"... no, you're just a pussy - Machine

Like others, I initially started lifting to play football in HS. I was one of the few kids who actually enjoyed it, and would go hard, which the coaches really appreciated. Unfortunately, I’m the least athletic mofo you’ll ever meet, so my gains in the weight room didn’t translate much to the field.
After that, I lifted sporadically into my early 20s, but was never really all that dedicated, and didn’t know what the fuck I was doing, to be honest. Everything changed when I hit 30, was a flabby 235 lb and just felt tired and worn out all the time. I started working out and losing weight, got down to 208...then went to the Arnold for the first time. I then watched Daniel bell squat 900 lb inches from my face, and knew right then what I wanted to do with myself.
I’ll probably never get to a 900 squat, but I’m sure as fuck gonna try. Probably never gonna lift in the cage - but again, still gonna try for it. Now I’m 35 and weigh 245, but am a hell of a lot more jacked than before!

I was a lot like you Nmowery. I really didn’t have a clue in my 20’s. All we had then was the muscle mags. By my 30’s I got married and quit lifting, but when I started back I was able to put my knowledge together and had a solid plan. I found the FORVM and expanded on what I was doing and now at 45 I am in the best shape of my life. Still chasing my goals.

Well as a male who does not want to be strong? Right?
Growing up I raced motocross (age 5-21 years old). I had a trainer that made me lift weights for motocross. NOthing like bodybuilding but more like Crossfit style and cross training/ conditioning. By 6th grade I had a 6 pack and shoulders. I was amazed what my body did with just 2 years of lifting these weights. So I wanted to bodybuild but my trainer would not let me. BB and motocross is like fire and water. So I had to wait. Then I started buying FLEX and IRONMAN magazine at age 13 and was amazed that they could do that. So I waited years. I turned pro racing motocross in 2004 did two pro races and quit. It was time to move onto something else. That next week I was FULL into bodybuilding and in 10 months later I entered my first BB show.

How valued your input is here. To the guys first reading this stuff it motivates them finding some parallels with accomplished athletes like yourself.
Basically Arnold, and before that Marvel comics... When it really took off was when I first got my own weight set and could train as I pleased, and then when I got my driver's license and could drive myself to the gym...

Now it's your turn to inspire a generation! You have broken the mold my friend. The incredible physique you posess and the strength behind it, is the shit fucking legends are made of! Maybe Marvel should look into making a comic about Dan Green.

had an adjustable bench with a leg curl/ext, pec dec arms (I think), barbell with 85 lbs max. Just did curls, upright rows and shoulder presses and reverse curls all day in my bedroom lol
