Same here. I wear shoes if I absolutely have to (I'm in the cul de sac instead of inside etc.) There's not a tennis shoe on earth that will save you if you drop a plate or dumbbell on your toe. On the other hand, being barefoot makes me stay aware of what I'm doing.
One other thing is people who wear shoes are so afraid of the sudden acute injury that they forget what those shoes are doing slowly to them every day. Not just their foot but their ankles, knees, lower bac etc.
I'd rather just stay barefoot and be careful. Been working fine for 18 years of training at home.
