Oh man! I know that feeling. When I used to race motocross I had broken my ribs a few times so I know that discomfort.
Ya it's definitely impacted my 2 mile run for the Army more than anything else now. For the most part, lifting doesn't irritate it any more besides the occasional flare up. But running still irritates it almost every time (but not nearly as bad).
"Ask yourself this: if everyone else is training once per week, what are you doing that's so different that you would expect to get better results than anybody else? You might have good genetics, be tough enough and disciplined enough to train hard... but so are a lot of people." - BOSS
"I think I must be overtraining"... no, you're just a pussy - Machine
Everything you do to yourself you pay for later. As a nurse you see it everyday. Whatever you do in your 20’s-30’s you pay for in your 40’s-50’s like partying. Your liver starts to give you the middle finger. Same goes with a bad diet. Diabetes and hypertension show up. Injuries you can compensate for when you’re young, but when you get older they remind you what you did. Hopefully you can modify your training or wear supportive gear to keep going. Neoprene sleeves may not be enough but you can get elastic ones like the crushers from lifting large.
It sure does! things I did in my late teens and early 20s is messing me up now bad in mid 30s. I remember too from working in the hosptial.
Now do you think the supportive gear PROTECTS your joints or masks discomfort? I feel when I wear supportive gear I can lift heavier than without it which makes me feel like it is masking the potential wear and tear. Is there any truth do that?

OH man. Broken ribs are the worst. Worst bones to break in my experience with 9 fractures.

I would think I would have lasting pain after working out if the gear masked the pain. Keeping the joints warn and mildly compressed has to add protection and stability. Either that or it just gives me a mental crutch LOL. Wearing sleeves could just make me think I’m supported and gives me false confidence. That’s still giving me something I guess.

That is what I mean. I remember when I used to use the sleeves and my knees hurt bad later that day and day after. Maybe I will give them a shot again. Which ones do you recommend?
I just have neoprene elbow sleeves. I can pretty much bench without elbow pain. An the rare times I max I might get more inflammation in my bursitis, but nothing horrible. I use Red Crusher knee sleeves. When I got them, and when I probably needed them the most, they were pretty stiff and tight. Probably gave me a little extra on my squat. Now they are 7-8 years old and pretty broke in. Gives a lot and I still get some compression.
