OK, funny story. I had a class at work this morning. Got home and my grandson is over. Wife had to pick him up from school because our daughter had an appointment. Wife says she’s taking him home on her way to work. My grandson is like, no, I’m going to the gym with Papa. I’m deloading and really had no plans to go to the gym, but he didn’t have to twist my arm. We go to the gym. He’s 10 and does his thing in the MMA room while I train. He’s not ready to learn stuff yet and I’m not pushing. So on the way home he hits me up to sign a note from his teacher so he won’t get in trouble with his parents LOL. The gym was a delaying tactic. We had a talk and I filled in Dad. Happy ending. #granddadbod

Nothing super new in my life. Training bjj more than lifting lately. It’s like I’m struggling to get into the gym to lift. Not sure why, I’ve never struggled with motivation like this before. I’m sure it’ll pass.

Thats rad...I work with kids so I understand some of their tactics but at the end of the day he still spent time in the gym with family.

Bjj huh...nice. Where do you train and what belt are you? I know when I was doing BJJ regularly, I slowed my lifting down and justified missing lifts because of training. I often tried to do both, lift and then head to class but I know that was holding back at times while lifting because I knew what I was going to be facing.

Grays Harbor Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I’m a white belt, I started training last August. I’ve struggled with trying to train strongman and jitz at the same time also. I think I’m figuring the balancing act out, but still not really lifting the way I was.
Nothing really new. Work just kinda runs my life. Benching seems to be going well lately, but that is still kinda flying by the seat of my pants.
Work gets me as well. Between two jobs and all the other stuff...there are days that I walk into the gym and have 0 motivation to do shit. But those days are outnumbered by the days that me thinking, "Im going to kills these weights" I don't think I would appreciate those days as much if I didn't have the shitty ones. Keep pushing brother

Nice, I was doing Gracie Barra and am a 3 stripe white belt. I understand the frustration because being big and strong can help in BJJ but it can also harm your game. If the cost of membership wasn't so high.. I would probably still be doing it. But with cost and the limited number of classes per week I could attend due to work and life...I have taken a break. I love it and I know there is a happy medium between lifting and BJJ. Good luck finding it. And keep us updated on the belt progress as well as the weights.

That’s understandable - interest in one thing often wanes as it peaks in another. We all only have so much time to devote to our passions...and, I know some guys who find lifting sometimes detrimental to bjj. Hard to roll when you’re stiff and sore from lifting, I’m sure!
Personally...I’ve just been fuckin around and trying to slowly build my lifts using a general conjugate template. I noticed last week that the guy whose record I broke for the state Uspa submaster record just beat me by 2.5kg, so now I’m aiming to crush his total in October. Not that my #s are all that great, but it’s nice to have a specific goal and a manufactured nemesis lol.

I'm a three stripe white belt also. I'm not the biggest guy(5'6" and 185 lbs) but yeah being bigger and stronger can hurt your game.

I'm 6'3 1/2 and walk around at about 400. My size and strength really help when in dominating position in tournaments but I really tried to not use size and strength in practice. I didn't want guys not wanting to roll with me because of my size.

Well, at least I just got promoted. So there's that.

100% I look at work like I look at the gym at times...if I hit my weight ceiling I need to change things up so I can create a new ceiling to shoot for. Just like at work...continue to work hard and do the extras to continue to move up. Congrats brother on the accomplishments. There is something about people with the gym mentality in the work place. We are often not the ones getting sick, have a better attitude, and are able to handle pressure( just my perception)
