I have been doing routines where one group of muscles are all trained on one day such as, mon-chest, tues-legs, wed-off, thurs-back and shoulders, fri-arms, while using techniques to "shock" these muscle groups. I have had good results with this, but I recently tried a new routine where all muscle groups are worked but using different variations each session, while still doing legs on one day. I noticed that I was able to lift a much higher weight, in some cases thirty or more lbs, with each exercise, keeping proper form. I actually tried this for a couple of weeks, now going back to my normal routine, I am less than pleased, I noticed that as I go through my normal session, each exercise is decreasing in weight from the new workout.
