Seated Military press VS OH DB press
First off id like to say whatsup to all the brothers here living the animal lifestyle! i dont post on here much at all but am an avid reader of the forvm.
I have recently recovered from a minor pull/strain on my rotator, i took some time off of any pressing exercises that caused aggravation and slowly built it back up to what i was pressin before. Ive finally surpassed my overhead db press from before but am still struggling with my seated military BB press. I always figured that pressin with the BB was easier than db because it wasnt unilateral and the dominant side could "carry" the weight. any thoughts on this ? side note: i also recently cut about 50 lbs which did drop all my lifts a good amount , mostly all pressing exercises and squats I just wanna get my military press up again not to mention my bench ..squat seems to be comin along. |

i have never felt that the seated barbell press...military press, whatever.... has been that important in my shoulder development. It seems the more i try to do them, i just end up getting hurt. I primarily stick to dumbells for my shoulders (unless i am lucky enough to have access to the Hammer Strength behind the neck press machine) if i use a barbell for my shoulders, it is for upright rows, which i use an ez bar then. unless youre in this for the strength game, i would stick with dumbell presses, they are much easier on the shoulders

im am mostly lifting for hypertrophy right now ..but i feel like the BB press has its benefits ..when i say that its cause i always assumed u can push more weight with the BB therefore stimulating deeper muscle fibers but im gettin the opposite here where i can press more on DB than BB ..perhaps its just the stress on the shoulders thats gettin me with BB..the curiosity lies there ..how im pressing more unilaterally ..ty for ur advice

I feel you on the shoulder injury, I tore muscle in my right shoulder bout 6 years ago and have struggled to build my delts ever since. I've found in works best to us db and find the range of motion that works best and goe slow. I use the smith machine too which takes away added balance weight and works your muscles really well I think.

what i've really been loving lately, is to do my heavy stuff with dumbbells, then move to lighter behind-the-neck Smith Machine presses. Kinda get the barbell feeling, but it's doesn't impact the RCs as much, and the behind the neck for me gives me a great pump
