Ive always been more interested in my 3 lift total than just bench. I want to have a total of 2000. In order to do this I guess my bench will need to be around 550. im currently at 400. attainable but will need to put in some serious time.
After a four year lay off because of a botched back surgery and now chronic pain, my bench is shit. I haven't tested a 1RM since I started lifting again in December. I will be this week though. I'm guessing it's somewhere around 185 lbs. I just got some sawhorses to use as a safety catch since I don't have a spotter and workout in my garage. I'd love to see 225 by Christmas. I'm planning on starting the 5/3/1 soon so I think with my new plan and diet I should see my goal easily. Especially since I haven't been able to go heavy safely yet. Now that I can, the sky is the limit. Who knows? Maybe this time next year I'll be saying 325...
The longer term goal that I have set for myself is 315 but I have to get 255 first, then 260 and up and up til I get to where I need to be. I find short term goals work best for me and can be as short as week to week, day to day, or set to set.

I would love to see 405...... im a long way from it seeing how my biggest bench thus far is 300...but im proud of that and im going to spend the winter months going for as much as i can, so we will see...

My best competition bench is 300. My best gym bench was 315.
My long term goal is to hit a competition 405. But first I'd like to nail at 365 raw comp bench, maybe within a year. I've just begun training for raw strength.

My first competition bench (raw) was only 280. So in a competition setting I'd like to get 315 eventually. I progress quicker and more efficiently on squats and deads. Bench has always been a slow increase but it'll get there with time and training.
id just really like to have a solid, reliable, training partner.....

First, I would like to know how old everyone is that is benching 300 or more and the goal is 400 or more. Just to let you know. I was 240 when I was 15, 165 at 16(YES THAT IS CORRECT), and 181 at 17. That was my Sophmore, Junior, and Senior years in HIgh School. THe big weight drop was, because I rode a bike everyday 40 to 60 miles and played basketball all the time. Now my bench was 280, 315, and 350. My first year in College I was 18 220 benching 420. I did lots of tricep work when I was younger. All my lifts were raw. I did not do much back work or machine, because I did not have them in the gym I trained at. So, if your still having issues with your goal. Then start doing more triceps and back work. Try only benching one or two times a week. Most important, do not overtrain.

The most I ever hit was 355x1. That was doing some singles after my usual flat bench work out so I could probably do more if I was just to go in for a one rep max and had a spotter. I'm 38 and climbing for 405.
