I agree with Beast...sounds horrible. I cant imagine how long it would take for me to stretch and warm up. But I am not a morning lifter so maybe some of the AM guys will have a different opinion

Due to work/kids/life I’ve trained early off and on for many years and have had great workouts most of the time irregardless of if I was focusing on powerlifting or bodybuilding. Sleep is usually the only factor for me. I usually feel better in the gym if I’ve waited a while after eating anyways, so it works for me.

Also you have to consider your career! How will it help you progress financially regarding raises, promotions, etc with a company if you're always tired at work because you trained hard that morning?? Doesn't make sense to me! Plus over time losing sleep due to getting up excessively early causes a wide variety of countless health issues.

My experience is that lifting early SUCKS, but...it makes me actually feel better going to work or whatever afterwards. The workouts themselves are crap, though. Only way I’d really recommend is if a)it’s the only option, or b)training for a meet. Squatting max weight at 10-11am will fuck you up if you aren’t used to it!

Some folks can bounce out of bed at any hour and have crazy energy, but not many.

I don’t have shit for energy in the AM, but the combo of caffeine, pump, and endorphins makes for a nice day after a morning lift. I still go in the afternoon/evening when possible.

I think it depends on your routine. If you don’t regularly get up early then you won’t have the energy or alertness to train. If you’re always getting up early, then why not start your day with training? You can have great training sessions if you’re doing it all the time. Waking up randomly at 0430-0500 and expecting to PR is kinda insane though.

Much appreciate the feedback guys, I think I'm gonna keep it in the afternoons. Not enough time in the mornings to get warmed up properly and let my back loosen up.

If it aint broke...don't fix it. At the end of the day, you are still pushing weight and getting better and it doesn't matter what number the hands of the clock are pointing to.

No problem! Dan Green once told me on here that sometimes if he's limited on training time, he'd hit the barbell movements in regular fashion than would super set or triple set his various accessory work.

If need be Swole you obviously could but I would reccommend holding off on the heavy stuff until you've acclimated to the new hours. Give your body adequate time to adjust.

I train at 6.30am, the reason is that I have a full time job, a family, and an MSc to study for in the evenings. Ergo mornings are the only time that I have free to go to the gym.

My workouts are usually fine (not GREAT, when compared to afternoon training), the key for me is to drink enough coffee and wake up my nervous system enough while warming up.
