      Grumpy? who me?

There is no greater joy than to lift with impunity!
I think Socrates might've coined that one. Nah.
He was a fucking lightweight. Too philosophical.
Anyways I digress my fellow muscle heads.
I've been doing this lifting thing
for the better part of 50 years.
And I can honestly say it has been
one of the best decisions I ever made!!
However, this shit has taken a radical
turn for the worst. My trips to the gym now
find me questioning that very decision.
Gym etiquette it appears, is a "Boomer" term I'm told.
Gone are the days of camaraderie and courtesy!
It's now become fucking Thunder dome! Monopolizing
pieces of equipment for unreasonable amounts of time
was unthinkable and not tolerated way back when.
Arrogant, egotistical little shits stake there claim on
racks/benches by merely placing an article of there choosing
next to it while there off fucking around on there cell. Oh no!
Is this possible? Have I now become the old crotchety
fuck of the gym? Perhaps my friends
but I will wear my crown proudly and try to live up
      to the title!

Keep it real you sick fuckers!

At what point do we start questioning our sanity?
The shit junkies do is definitely abnormal.
Total fucking gluttons for punishment, no?
How else do you explain this obsessive need?
Returning each fucking day, testing limits
for no other reason than for the love of doing it.
You sure as shit can't really label it “Recreational”.
      Now, Golf. Tennis. Swimming. All
      sensible extra curriculars.
      But subjecting the human body
to handle workloads that make a
      longshoreman cringe is anything but
recreational! Yeah, perhaps we do have a
screw loose. But then again we had to
have been fucked up to begin with!
Welcome to the land of misfit toys!

We discover our physical limitations, push beyond them to a breaking point. Get set back. Renew our determination and rediscover those limitations and attack and crush them until we are beyond what they once were. We absorb pain. Pain normal people probably can’t imagine. It’s only pain to us. It’s a limit for them. Outside of the gym our obsession directs everything else we do. It dominates our thoughts. There is no reason, but when placed in the same room with similarly broken individuals, it becomes a competition.

      Pyschosis

I've discovered, even as I approach middle age, when I hit the weights and am in a psychotically, pissed off out of my mind furious state, that is when I see the most gains.

      Are we fucking masochists?
Seriously, does what we do qualify?

      Simple explanation...

How do we stay motivated? Not all of us compete.
So with no return on an investment, then how? Well,
the majority of us use training as a tool to achieve a desired effect. The junkie however, trains strictly for the love of training.Which makes it quite easy to stay inspired!
We set no real goals other than
getting our asses to the gym!
We don't need to remind ourselves
      of past successes for incentive.
We devise a plan centered merely,
      around keeping our appointment
with the iron. There are no deadlines,
no sense of urgency. Our gains are merely
a byproduct of this labor of love. Treat the relationship kindly and the rewards will be immeasurable!

I compete with myself every single day. There is too much to be done in all aspects of my life right now and will be forever. The price of being a successful man it is and I wouldn't have it any other way!

The fact that I can lift/exercise AND use it as another way to compete against myself, better myself and grow myself not only physically, mentally and spiritual is simply icing on the cake; truly, a gift and I will always see it that way.

*I am disciplined. In my experience, there is no such thing as motivation. You're either disciplined to get shit done or you're lazy, get nothing done and your life stagnates.

Being a man is the greatest gift as we are allowed to create our own character and be whoever & whatever we wish to be.

      sticks and stones?

The premise by which junkie’s abide
may appear pretty extreme to a lot of people.
Pretty fucking ridiculous considering these are the same assholes
that find a rousing game of pickleball challenging!
Funny how they see us as some delinquent subculture.
It's their own insecurities that paint this
dark and disturbed picture of us fucking mongrels!
Somehow labeling us as being socially flawed
validates their candy ass approach to training.
The junkie's devotion to the iron will remain unwavering,
despite popular belief. The thing that distinguishes us most,
is we see this as a necessary part of our being
rather than a flavor of the month faddish appeal.
      This shit is for life!

I was gonna post some "I am not a has-been" stuff, but then I saw this philosophical gem and it reminded me of that moment of clarity you get after ripping a weight off the ground or rack it back up and think "...I never thought I would do this/ever get back to this point in my whole life."

I am a pain junkie and masochist, and I want to feel that high as much as I can until I can't anymore.

      Is perception reality?

Passion verses obsession ah the great debate!
The differences can be subtle but significant.
Passion allows for some semblance of normalcy while
maintaining a strong desire for something that inspires and motivates you.
Passion allows for balance in life. You can engage
in your passion while still maintaining other important aspects,
      such as relationships and responsibilities.

Obsession however is an “Unhealthy Fixation”.
An intense preoccupation with a thought or
      activity that fucking consumes you!
It often has a negative impact, causing stress,
anxiety, and even harm to your well-being.
Unless, of course you’re one of us!
      While passion drives most,
      positively towards their goals, obsession
      tho considered by many,
borderline insanity is our closest Allie!
The junkie uses it as a catalyst to reaching
      limitless possibilities.
It insists on demanding more of our potential.
      It accepts nothing less!!
      Oh sweet obsession!!

Strong body is a strong mind. Most don't notice that the super-rich and elites are all in good shape? Most of them take some kind of fight training and do some lifting too.

Are folks going to tell me THEY DON'T HAVE TIME? These guys are worth 9-12 figures and make time to train. Some of them work 90-120 hours a week and are deci/centi-billionaires and people have the nerve to say they can't find time to go for a jog around the block???????

      Blows my mind.

Just another day at the office.

Weightlifting. Commonly thought of as a mindless
      activity pursued by beastial dolts.
It’s not entirely a jaded perception however.
This depiction is all thanks to the drug addled
assholes who earned us that bad rap!!
It’s these same jerk offs who are the
noisiest fuckers in the gym, not to mention
all the theatrics. They’ve managed to undo
years of inspiring belief in the junkies serious and deliberate
approach to training. Tossing dumbbells, slamming plates,
typical shit that project a “Look I’m a colossal douche” image.
Don’t confuse the junkies quiet, non assuming demeanor for
lack of enthusiasm. We don’t advertise. We internalize.

**Please note fellow junkies these posts are inspired by actual events**
