      For love of the Iron...

Training for the iron junkie my friends,
is a labor of love! We seek no reward
for doing what we enjoy most, TRAINING!!
Getting in, bustin' your ass and getting it done
is where the true gratification and satisfaction
comes! Sure we do reap the benefits that come
from consistently showing up and hammerin'
the shit out of ourselves. But it's not why we
do what we freakin' do. We don't cut corners.
We don't take the easy way out. And we sure
the fuck don't rely on artificial means to get
shit done!! You got to bleed this shit!

      YES SIR!

Funny, I've always called us "Iron Junkies". Since most knuckleheads say "meathead" which is incorrect now I always say "musclehead" and people seem to be more accepting of that, LOL! People are funny, aren't they?

The term iron junkie accurately describes individuals who have an unhealthy obsession to lifting. We freakin’ need it!

      The thrill of the fight…

Only those of us who have an obsessive
dependency for the iron can relate to the
NEED to emerge triumphantly from every brutal
battle! It is our life blood.
Without it we wither and die!
      Not succumbing to mediocrity takes
focus and resolve. Many want the rep
      few are willing to invest.

      Weird. Not if you belong.

From an iron junkie's perspective it's not
difficult to see why we are enamored with
this crazy lifestyle! It's this obsessive behavior
that is the essence of our being! It excites our
twisted need to conquer the daily challenges
      associated with serious training.
We do take it to unreasonable levels
no doubt. But it is there, when testing our limits
that we find our deepest sense of accomplishment.

Tell me how you really feel...

The “Commoners” will have you believe that our
approach to training is considered unhealthy
when our goals become unrealistic and inflexible.
Get the fuck outta here! All our expectations are
unrealistic, that’s the point! Inflexible? Certainly! To
settle for anything less is not an option!
Failure to meet our higher standards only leads
to the willingness to submit and accept. There’s
      no room for compromise!

      Commit to it!!

Those of us who have dedicated ourselves
to this insanely difficult lifestyle recognize there
are basic elements necessary to make the
intimate connection to the iron a reality.
In layman’s terms, We love this shit no
matter what the cost!! YES! This love is
      unconditional and undeniable!

      No denying it.

If you are in, YOU'RE IN!!
      There's no mistaking that incredible
thrill you get when you emerge
      victorious from a tenacious struggle
with the iron! It fucking excites the senses!!
It's that adrenaline rush we crave,
that only a challenging training session
      can provide! It's pretty
      fucking obvious reaching each
      new heightened expectation
is what keeps the Iron junkie hooked!

      Chemical release?

      Endorphins? Dopamine? Experts claim these
are some of the neurotransmitters that are responsible
for addiction. However, the true iron junkie knows only one thing
that opens those flood gates. The anticipation of a workout
that teases our sensibilities. A workout that taunts and mocks
our very commitment to the values we hold so dear!
There may be other contributing hormonal elements,
No question. But for those of us who hold true to the
junkie way, the mere thought of a training session that
makes no promises and threatens to steal another shred of our dignity
will titillate and tantalize! Nobody said this was rocket science!
      Long live iron!!

      We’re on a road to nowhere…

Our existence as iron junkies relies on our unfaltering
want to achieve the unattainable! The freakin’
dogged pursuit of an ever changing goal created
by our own hand! We’re not looking to stroke our
fucking egos here. Weekend warriors need not apply!
The method that fuels “OUR” madness is forever
chasing that narcotic charm that only the
      iron can provide!

      Feed the need.

The road to iron freak enlightenment requires
a mind open to exploring the upper echelon
of the most challenging of training precepts.
Cultivating principles that bring the desired
effect only through trial by fire!
It’s not for the squeamish people! It’s a steady
diet of training that wills the body to move deeper
into uncharted depths. The need may never be satisfied!
However, do not be discouraged. For Us it is the peregrination to the
eventual end that makes the effort worth it!

Not to be left up to chance!

      Circumstances surrounding your success
are not by chance. You induce a certain
course of action by how prepared you are
      to meet the exceeding demands.
      Iron junkies accept willingly and
      enthusiastically the necessary challenges
required to rise out of the depths
of mediocrity. Keep in mind girls and boys,
if you’re not the lead dog the
      view never changes!

How do we get there from here?

Those of us who claim the title of Iron junkie
have come to grips with the reality that it takes
a long term commitment to a process that
has no tolerance for a weak constitution.
A process, if not completely aware of the
demands will crush any hopes of becoming
part of our exclusive little group. We, the
Iron junkie wear the label as a badge of exclusion.
Exclusion from the mainstream so called,
      self proclaimed jerk off pretenders.
Who by the way go to great lengths
      to convince any unsuspecting dipshits
that are willing to listen to their bullshit.
Our road is a long one and less travelled.
      There's a reason for that.
      Stay true to the process.

      Yeah, I thought so…

This thing, that we've dedicated ourselves to,
forces us to push our limits, to test our mettle!
Anyone who professes to own the title gets it.
The fact remains it’s this impassioned approach to
our training that creates the wide divergence between
“US” and them. It is this unshared hunger to
sojourn to a destination that presents the most difficult of
challenges that keeps us from falling into the abyss of
      the mundane!

      what were you expecting

The Iron Junkies tireless pursuit of a
      metaphysical realm defies freakin' explanation.
A concept that the average gym goer struggles
with because it requires more of an investment of
not only one’s physical but mental self.
The training methods we adhere to border
on the extreme and radical. A philosophy that is
shunned and maligned by the cake eating assholes
that created the fucking "LUNK" alarm!
Unfortunately, it’s that warm and fuzzy mentality that
is shared by all these fucking lemmings that feel
our approach is excessive. Excess is best mother fuckers!!

      Based on true events…

My rants here are based on all the non sense I’ve
actually encountered over the past 50 plus years
of training both as a competitive and
non competitive bodybuilder. I voice my opinions
on all the stuff that really gets my shit hot!
Anyone whose read any of my garbage would come
to the conclusion that I certainly have an axe to grind.
I did really well in my earlier competitive years taking seconds
to guys like Belknap, Dreher, Austin, Bannout. If I had resorted
to doing the drug thing the outcomes might’ve been quite different.
Anyway that’s what a lot of the judges thought. None of that ever
impacted my feelings about working out tho. I didn’t do it for that reason.
I trained the same freakin’ way contest or not. Balls to the wall people,
      Iron junkie for life!!

      Let’s try this again…

How committed do you really need to be?
It’s just lifting weights right? Who gives a fuck
      anyway? Just lifting weights? Really?
Anyone who is seriously interested in making
gains in strength and size knows how great
the demands are, and what’s needed to meet
those demands. As for the rest of those
clueless jerk offs they can continue to scratch there
head and wonder where the fuck things went wrong!
Needless to say anything less than
100% commitment of body and mind just won’t do
      for the ‘junkie!

      You have no idea…

What defines an iron junkie? Do you have to be a certain size?
Lift enormous amounts of weight? Not necessarily.
What really does matter is how serious we take our
approach to fulfilling the insane requirements.
Size and strength are certainly a useful way to gage
progress but you can be 5 foot nothin’, 110 pounds
and still be a raging Iron junkie!! It’s how fucking hungry
you are! Wanting this shit at any cost! No matter the cost!
It’s what’s in your head that fuels the heart!
